You’ve improved me by reminding myself to block people like you more often. Thanks dude.
I use Lemmy in the same way I used Reddit back in the day: a time waster at work.
I don’t need to be reminded that life is shit while I’m at work. I know that, I’m at fucking work!
I get enough political bullshit outside of Reddit/Lemmy, thanks.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Machine – Powerful Enough?
2·17 days agoYou can check the spot price of GDDR6 it’s nit that expensive. Also valve most likely secured their supply contract and final specs a while ago.
There is no excuses for this.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Machine – Powerful Enough?
53·17 days agoThey really dropped the ball with only 8gb vram, it’s not like GDDR is expensive.
Outside of simracing, Pistol Whip is my most played VR game, despite the fact I can only play for so long until I have to lie down and curse my overall lack of fitness.
As a deck owner, it’s not that powerful, you’re never going to drive it at full settings on most modern games, so the size of the vram does not matter all that much.
Also, the GPU already does the cache work itself if the vram is full anyway, and GDDR is much faster than regular DDR, which is why you see stuttering on 8gb GPUs when texture resolution is pushing the limits.
With the spot price if GDDR6 modules it’s frankly disappointing to only see 8gb.
Plus, add in the fact that FSR/DLSS models take up valuable vram size to work for framegen and stuff, it reduces even more the availability for actual data.
Use Bazzite, or ChimeraOS if you do’nt care about desktop mode
Bulk pricings has increased sure, but not to the extent consumer price did. Capitalism, ho!
How much jank are you willing to deal with?
I’m a bit concerned about the vram situation. 8Gb is not a lot nowadays, particularly if you start adding stuff like ai framegen and stuff which these types of machines tend to need further down the line.
An extra 8gb wouldn’t have killed the profit margins.

32·1 month agoI will admit I was mistaken, I forgot the quarterly company wide corporate email asking employees to not be openly racist at work.
Truly solving inequalities, one middle manager asking you to sign that you’ve read the email at a time.
The problem isn’t that there isn’t smart women and minorities, they exist. They’re just crushed by the system. DEI won’t solve that. DEI won’t women and minorities the resources to achieve their dreams, DEI won’t give handicapped people access to a better life.
DEI is a bandaid on a festering, maggot filled wound. People slap it on and are like “wow, what a good job”, and it drives me crazy.

13·1 month agoSocial studies are about worth as much as the paper they’re written on. 60 years ago studies said black people were inferior. In 60 years it’ll be something else. They always match the era they were made in.
The only true solution to inequality is actual action against the cause of inequality, not some feelgood quarterly corporate email asking employees to not be openly racist at work.

212·1 month agoDEI is nothing more than an acceptable form of racism.
Hiring people to meet quotas does not make a society better and does nothing to fix the root cause of inequalities.
Free access to quality education, healthcare and funding higher education for the people who can’t afford it is how you fix things for the better. This is the future and good.
DEI is the equivalent of a small band aid over a putrid, gaping wound.
