From personal experience, I went that route (open source non profit) and it ended up being a shit show, i wouldn’t assume it’s better. I think going the route of just producing things people want to make their life easier is somewhat reasonable. I’ve been having a bit of a time sorting this out myself.

I’ve had one of these for a few years now, the CO2 sensor is the primary sensor I was interested in. I ended up putting esphome on mine because I didn’t want any cloud dependency, but glad to see it’s officially supported in home assistant now.

There is another newer open source project called void that’s a cursor clone but with open source models (voideditor.com)

Ahh, makes sense. Multizone is something I’ll probably end up doing in my house soon, thankfully all my ductwork is exposed in the basement which makes it easy. Thanks appreciate it, I’m going to try to get a prototype board spun in the next week or two, test it out for a bit, and then see if other people are interested in them too. Cool, I’ve come across this before. I have been looking for a more open thermostat, preferably esp32 based, that I can have good local control over. I have started to do the board layout for one with some air quality sensors built in.

If you don’t mind me asking whats more complicated about your hvac setup? Multistage? Heat pump? Multizone?

They do work pretty well, I’m phasing out the Google homes in my house trying to go completely local, and the voice PEs are pretty good for voice control.

Which one would you recommend?

I had pretty bad knee pain for a long time. Yoga relieved the pain a ton and ended up helping me identify that my IT band being tight was whats causing the knee pain. It also just generally helps me feel less stiff.

I’ve done a fair bit of yoga in my life, you really have to find an instructor that teaches what you are looking for. Some are more woo woo, some are more about meditation, some are more about strength or flexibility. I found really good instructors at a climbing gym, not a yoga studio.

USB-C. We are clearly progressing. I never want to go back to the world where every phone had a proprietary power brick and connector.

Zero knowledge proofs. I’ve worked in the industry for a couple years now, and I’ve got a lot of hope it will actually help us fix the internet, stop spam bots, and allow for people to interact with better control over their data.

I think looking through the comments on this post about AI stuff is a pretty good representation of my experience on lemmy. Definitely some opinions, but most people are pretty reasonable 🙂
