Technology@lemmy.ml•No account? No Windows 11 for you, says Microsoft
7·2 months agoI switched 5 weeks ago and it’s honestly in a much better state than I thought. I haven’t felt the need to use Windows in those 5 weeks. It feels like I’m back in 90s with full control of my computer again.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Plan for Windows 10 EOL and discounted old laptops
1·2 months agoIt was on an ASUS Z790 motherboard and if you do a search you will see a fair few examples of people experiencing similar issues. Although there are dozens of different troubleshooting steps that people have tried to resolve it. I’m currently using Bazzite which I’m having a lot more success with, although I only ran Mint for a very short amount of time and I find it hard to believe that I did anything to break it.
I’m starting to hit some points where the limitations of Bazzite are causing me some issues, such as wanting to install hdr10plus_tools, but I’m persevering and might move to another distro as I get more comfortable.
I’m primarily a gamer and have recently started to use my PC as a Jellyfin server when I’m not gaming. So I’m learning slowly. It’s now been 4 weeks since I’ve used Windows which hasn’t happened in the last 33 years since I first used 3.11.
I feel like the switch has been made and I’m going stick with it in one form ity another.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Plan for Windows 10 EOL and discounted old laptops
1·2 months agoTo be fair I had Linux Mint installed recently and audio broke on the first update. Never could fix it. I had to reinstall. I’m a total noob on Linux but my experience doesn’t seem that unusual based on the huge number of troubleshooting steps I tried from users experiencing similar issues.

8·4 months agoI think it would fall under forgery which is definitely illegal and doesn’t require you to use the ID.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Avatar (the one with the blue aliens) is such a weird franchise
71·4 months agoBut you could do this with every story/movie trope that’s been repeated throughout our species history. The concept of retelling stories in different contexts is itself not new but for sure reason Avatar gets overly criticised for it.
You don’t see the same criticisms for every bank heist movie that all follow the same basic premises as each other. I just did it a bit weird why so many people are against this particular trope. Is it because it tries to deal with our history of oppression and colonisation? I honestly don’t know.
I doubt there are any truly original stories that couldn’t be shown to be a retelling of another. I would even argue that some genres wouldn’t exist if this wasn’t a thing.
No, his face really does look like that

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•My world is so much better because of immigrants
27·5 months agoThe billionaires have you convinced. Congratulations. Now only billionaires can benefit from cheap labour. I wonder how that happened? What kind of forces would possibly make it so that only the rich would benefit? Must be the immigrants, right?
Top right is Inglorious Basterds. Not sure about top left.

20·6 months agoI would say it’s more accurate to say that vibe coding is to coding what microwaving a ready meal is to being a restaurant chef.

29·6 months agoBecause I don’t watch random videos, I watch people I’m subscribed to and they don’t exist on other platforms. I would love to switch, really. The very fact I’m on Lemmy tells you that I’m open to doing that kind of thing.

4·6 months agoI was running my Gateway 2000 486 sx33 with Linux did she extended amount of time as a router with NAT. I’ve still got it somewhere in the loft.
It just feels like whoever wrote that is looking to justify being a shitty person as their default state. If it takes effort to be nice to someone then you’re not a nice person.
