I just get sad whenever I see Jennette McCurdy in anything she starred in after reading I’m Glad My Mom Died.

Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube to give banned creators a 'second chance' after rule rollbackEnglish
100·2 months agoThe program excludes creators terminated for copyright infringement
Because that’s just unforgivable. /s
Check the date in the screenshot.
Yes, and use the contents it has scanned to sell to advertisers.

Technology@lemmy.world•Google says adblockers caused YouTube views count to drop - this is what adblockers told us really happenedEnglish
811·3 months agoFor those curious what “adblockers said really happened”:
[AdGuard] suggested that the issue may have been linked to popular community-maintained filter lists like EasyList and uBlock’s Quick Fixes.
A new filter rule added to EasyList on August 11, 2025 targeted telemetry requests thought to be tied to YouTube’s view attribution and analytics.
That rule remained in place until September 10, when it was temporarily disabled.
A similar change was added to uBlock’s Quick Fixes on September 10 and removed on September 17.
It’s all about marketing. “This smart fridge uses quantum AI technology to do neural scans of the contents of your fridge, allowing it to adjust the temperature and humidity perfectly for your food, making it crisp and moist!”
I use GParted on a live CD/ISO for similar situations. I personally have never put my home directory on a separate partition, so I don’t know if this would somehow not work for you and I suggest backing up your data!
I have! Upgrading from Fedora 41 to 42 worked well on the 3 machines I use it on.
I think most people who use Ubuntu, in general, aren’t posting about their experience with it online. So, yes, I’d say I agree with your observation.
One of the biggest reasons I won’t use Ubuntu on anything I care about is because I had numerous upgrade issues with it.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•(Solved) Can't avoid native Linux version from GOG with Heroic on Steam Deck
3·4 months agoWell, you listed one reason in your own post, so I suppose you could understand why. 😛
Another reason is poor support for Linux ports. Garry’s Mod crashes after ~30 minutes for me on the native Linux port, but works (mostly) out of the box under Proton.
It should also be noted that neither WINE nor Proton are emulating Windows.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft blocks emails that contain ‘Palestine’ after employee protestsEnglish
393·7 months agoThis has nothing to do with preventing people from talking about non-work topics and is entirely about silencing people who protest the ethically questionable (at best) actions the company makes in relation to said country. Not only that, but they involved themselves in politics by selling to organizations that are entirely involved with politics.
Edit: I would love to hear your rebuttal, rather than just downvoting everybody who has replied to you with no written response. It sounds like you have none otherwise.
Does this mean I no longer have to disable it in 5 different places each time I setup Firefox?
There are plenty of cheap foods that are easy cook and take minimal time to do so (ex: pasta.) I blame capitalism for making people addicted to food from restaurants.

Technology@lemmy.world•VMware perpetual license holders receive cease-and-desist letters from BroadcomEnglish
7·7 months agoI would recommend it. I also started with VirtualBox and made my way over to GNOME Boxes. Anything else will have a learning curve, but in the end, I found the alternatives work better once you wrap your head around them and you don’t ever need to worry about Oracle pulling the rug from under you.

Technology@lemmy.world•VMware perpetual license holders receive cease-and-desist letters from BroadcomEnglish
121·7 months agoBecause it’s owned by Oracle and they’re the kings of malicious licensing. Using their software, even as an individual, with no intention of ever using it for work, gives them more power. Of course, if you ever even think about using it for work, then be prepared for the company you work for to be paying a huge bill or be sued.

Technology@lemmy.world•VMware perpetual license holders receive cease-and-desist letters from BroadcomEnglish
1254·7 months agoThis is another good reminder to not use VMware nor VirtualBox for any reason.
Go into the game’s settings in Steam and then set its compatibility to Proton Hotfix. You should then have the option to install it.

Are you planning to use the SSD across multiple computers?
