What would the world do without people like you?

I work in healthcare (maintenance) and our computer system is so fucking locked down, I’m sure CoPilot will have some similar way of being shackled. I was surprised to learn that the terminal isn’t locked, until I fooled around some and realized that every possible command was individually blocked.

I think he has a really good point. I consider myself acceptably tech literate, I’m not afraid of the command line even if I don’t really understand how to use it, I’ve built my own computers for years, and I have a pretty custom configuration of Windows.
One thing a windows user can typically be sure of is that if it’s meant to work, it probably will. There is a pretty black and white environment of what’s possible and what isn’t. Linux is very much more “give it a shot” style computing for beginners. It breaks much more easily, it can be very confusing to configure, and it’s just different.
I think if it similarly to cars. Some people, like myself, love driving, enjoy tinkering with the car, maybe drive a standard for they joy of it. But most people just want a car to take them to work and the store. Most people just want a computer to work, either for their job or their hobby, but the hobby isn’t tinkering with software. The fact that even the very packaged and polished distros can require more than basic tech literacy to configure is likely what turns a lot of people away, whether or not that’s actually the case.
And getting snippy saying somebody is butthurt (which is fucking homophobic btw) is absolutely going to keep pushing people away if they think the community is full of holier than thou Linux nerds that don’t understand how to communicate with normal people.
I’m currently experimenting with different distros right now and am having a similar experience to the person you are replying to.
You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

I wanted to be an electrical engineer, then I saw all the math and settled for electrician, then I saw all the math and settled for Janitor
You’re not fitting a 6 core processor and a **60esque card in a ssf case for less than $1k I don’t think, so even $900 is competitive

Not worth the wager

Man go fuck yourself

Preaching down to folks who already have a good reason to hate your product is a good way to join that pile

I think typing charlie squirt so many times fucked up my autocorrect

I keep seeing supersampling artifacts when I squirt my eyes

Does it feel very solipsistic around here or am I the only one?
Please don’t put your trash in the forest to spite your municipality.
Blacklist your property. My downstairs neighbors ruined it for a three apartment building once. Had to have the city intervene, and they kept sneaking trash into our bins until I put a game camera up

Sounds like a fun job if the acceptable failure rate is like, 50%

Knowing nothing about code but a fair bit about cars, does that analogy mean like, you can play around with a kit car all you want because you built it, it’s relatively simple, and if you break it you’ll know why and how to fix it, and the Mercedes being the exact opposite?

Yea, that can be a difficult situation to deal with. My father has a vizsla/terrier mix female that is so affectionate with every human, not shy or aggressive at all. But she really has a hard time with other dogs. He brought her by one time though and despite Ásgeirr’s excitability and her mildly aggressive standoffishness, after a little while and a lot of encouragement they ended up running and playing together. My father and I both spent most of the time sitting on the ground with our respective dog reassuring them, petting the others dog, shaking hands, stuff like that. And smiling and laughing. They take so many cues from us.
All that is to say, don’t limit yourself to one dog that yours has had a good experience with before. There’s a lot you can do depending on both dogs temperament to help them respond positively to a new experience, and showing your joy and comfort is a big one. As long as you trust the other owner and both understand dog body language, and how they play including nips and yelps, I have had a lot of success introducing less social dogs to mine and my friends. It takes more work than the essay I just wrote, but it’s hardly work if you love me like I do! I wish you lots of happy barks and wagging tails.

Glad you had a good camping trip!
We took our then year old mal/lab mix(mostly mal) camping in August and he also did great, off leash the whole time happily responding to my call. Met other dogs, ran around with them, it was fun. Definitely a positive addition to the camping experience lol

Hide in a bush with a well charged hose

And it did help me quit tobacco, I can hardly stand to smoke a whole cig anymore. But in turn it destroyed my gut, so now I use pouches. We’ll see how these fuck me up, probably rot my gums or something.
That’s a false equivalent. I am confident that I could coach my mother through building a computer. I think most mechanics would struggle to assemble an entire car.
