Maybe I’m missing something

Technology@lemmy.world•New report blames Phison's pre-release firmware for SSD failures — not Microsoft’s August patch for WindowsEnglish
2914·3 months agoThe takeaway: Microsoft forced pre-release firmware onto millions of computers.
They’re lucky only a small percentage were damaged tbf.
Edit: on re-readinf I may have parsed this incorrectly
pre-release engineering firmware on certain SSDs, which may have been triggered by the Windows 11 updates.
It may be more like “for some reason some drives have pre-release software and the update… interacts badly with it?”

Pretty sure “That man” is Linus Torvalds and the light bleed is actually the desktop background (looks like a photo)
As for the rest… 🤷

9·4 months agoFor me, Minecraft bedrock (for kids) but looks like anything MS tainted will start (or maybe already does) require windows.
Looks like I have to decide what to do soon because they’re still on W10.

11·4 months agoThe git site has instructions on how to create your own git server in 30 mins.
It’s very easy once you know it’s literally just an SSH account. For personal projects or small teams is absolutely fine.
For open source there are lots of GitHub alternatives

91·5 months agoMammals drink boob juice (it’s in the name)
Mammals grow up and stop drinking it, so they stop producing the enzyme.
If you don’t stop (i.e drink a cow’s milk after breastfeeding) then you keep producing it I’m pretty sure I read about continued ingestion can re-enable the enzyme production (as in, you can eat yourself tolerant again)
There may be genetic conditions that make the intolerance permanent though IANAD

Using gs, ga and gc for git bullshit has saved me many a keystroke. They show the current status, last log and prompt me for commit message and everything!

Ah, windows logs, another amazing experience that doesn’t make me want to kill everyone.
tail /var/log/thing.logis far too easy
I mean, java and Microsoft errors are preceded by 120 characters of useless trash oftentimes, that is equally as infuriating.
So many times I see junior Devs (or not so juniors) and normies seeing an error message and, visibly, static plays between their ears on their mental TV set, then they just click the first button that looks appropriate and complain it didn’t work.
The text of the message does not get read or parsed.
“You need to close the program to continue”. Doesn’t work.
“Unexpected X at line N” Doesn’t work.
Drives me insane.

Wounds not healing, a shoulder injury that got worse over a few years (physio requested blood test that lead to diagnosis), sleep interrupted by peeing, low energy, E.D.
When I went in blood sugar was 17.5 after 12 hour fasting. They couldn’t shove medicine in me quick enough.
Hopefully caught it before I lose vision
