2 months agoThey… patched it? Yeah right. This is a whole class of fundamental design problem inherent to LLMs. But don’t worry, Google claims that it’s fixed now, I’m sure they’re telling the truth and not just pumping the bubble…

Ugh, what pathetic reporting, taking him at his word—that’s not what his own numbers say! It’s not agentic traffic, it’s just all bot traffic! And what’s the number-one cause of bot traffic right now?
AI scrapers, NOT agentic traffic!
They’re taking “wow, our scrapers are destroying the internet (see Anubis, “Stop Externalizing Your Costs Directly Into My Face”, etc) and spinning it into “wow, look how powerful agentic garbage is,” while carefully hiding the actual agentic numbers so they can pump this stupid bubble even more!

13·6 months agoOh what the fuck. I thought Ars Technica was one of the few journalistic outlets I could still broadly trust! There better be a full god damned front-page investigation on this.
…which seems like a much better way to generate summaries, honestly. Pull in human-written ones, and expand the simple version as necessary.

This happened to a close friend of mine. He was already on the edge, with some weird opinions and beliefs… but he was talking with real people who could push back.
When he switched to spending basically every waking moment with an AI that could reinforce and iterate on his bizarre beliefs 24/7, he went completely off the deep end, fast and hard. We even had him briefly hospitalized and they shrugged, basically saying “nothing chemically wrong here, dude’s just weird.”
He and his chatbot are building a whole parallel universe, and we can’t get reality inside it.
…you probably don’t do anything that complicated in your life where this would give you genuine value.
God that’s arrogant.
Cool! That top-right one has a great sense of movement in it.
Oh yeah, 100% true, “amount of traffic does not even remotely map to amount of actual work being done especially on such a horrifically inefficient system” was a point I meant to bring up but I sprung a leak in a blood vessel from sheer rage before I could even get there. Thank you.
