Your phone’s hotspot likely doesn’t create a local network. The other problem is that Tailscale works by creating a secure tunnel between your client and your PC. Local devices won’t have access to this secure tunnel. You need to setup Tailscale directly on the client device you want to connect to your PC from for it to work.

Technology@lemmy.world•Grok 4 has been so badly neutered that it's now programmed to see what Elon says about the topic at hand and blindly parrot that line.English
1·5 months agoIt’s possible Grok was fed a massive training set of Elon searches over several more epochs than intended in post training (for search tool use). This could easily lead to this kind of search query output.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•wanderer v0.17.0 released — Federation support is hereEnglish
15·6 months agoOne of the prettiest fediverse apps I’ve seen. Nice work!
Thanks! I’ll stick to the RAID 1 option then. I was looking at S3 Glacier for backup when it comes to that. But I really don’t want to worry about it too much until I’ve really got something going that I plan to use longer term.
I see the appeal with unRAID! My drives are pretty straight forward though I pretty much only plan to use the 2 4TB drives. Will probably skip the RAID for now (it’s not going to store anything SUPER important) and just use it as a hobby test server.
Ollama of course! Looks like the 1080s should be able to handle most 7B models. Exciting! Thanks for the help and suggestions!
Ooh this is a nice list of apps! I like doing things the hard way so I’ll probably skip the Freedombox part but these app ideas have got me thinking…
Yeah an online instance would be a good place to start. Maybe a GoToSocial instance.
Pretty sure it has 2 HDD bays, so I was thinking I would do something similar to the Synology Hybrid RAID on a 4TB drive. On retrospect though this might be way too crippling of a move for a play server, so I might forgo the RAID idea.
The Linux Upskill Challenge looks perfect! I feel comfortable with about 40% of the table of contents. Should be a fun weekend of experimenting.
Thanks for the help!
Yeah I use the bridge.
Would’ve switched in a heartbeat with IMAP support but that’s not in the cards. Stuck with Proton for now.

Reeder on iOS and Mac is excellent. Not open source, but lovingly crafted by an indie dev.

There isn’t a 1:1 comparison. But the closest comparison looks like Mastodon is on a bit of a decline at 800k MAU. Bluesky is roughly 400k daily likers.

Technology@lemmy.world•People are paying out of pocket or using their own PC for workEnglish
81·1 year agoIf, as an employee, you offer your personal laptop or pay for work expenses out of pocket without asking to get it reimbursed, no functioning company will question it or bother.
If you need something for work and they won’t give it to you, then you can’t work. It’s as simple as that.

3·2 years agoI spun up Plausible for my company site. Pretty straight forward honestly. It’s completely dockerized so there’s not a lot going on.
Your biggest problem is exposing the service on your home server to the internet. I personally wouldn’t recommend it, but if you know what you’re doing it’s possible.

Every now and then I will jump back into whatever flavor of MUD seems interesting for a few weeks. They’re so much fun but like you say, nobody plays them.
