i’m saying this because the nazis were greatly inspired by the usa’s genocide of Indigenous people for the holocaust, that’s why i wrote “partially” (as opposed to the Gaza genocide, where the usa’s responsibility is much more direct)
obviously I’m not denying the agency and responsibility of germany in the holocaust
it’s even (at least partially) responsible for the other two!

211·19 days agoerhm i’ll let you know that the soviet onion killed six hundred million bajillion stalinnion people so ☝️🤓
toxic working conditions and sexual harassment (this article also mentions them doing sloppy reviewing that led to misleading videos, which is bad but imo nowhere near as bad as the rest, i kinda wish the article didn’t focus so much on it)
i also remember linus saying he’d refuse to let his workers unionize, saying it would “make him feel like a bad boss”
and he’s also said that floatplane (their video streaming app) would let anyone join no matter their politics, up to and including nazis, because “free speech”

Linux@lemmy.ml•What you do with your windows button on your keyboard?English
3·24 days agoi use it to open my apps menu, same as it did in windows, as well as a modifier key for desktop-level stuff… same as it did in windows lol
tho, i added one shortcut with it which i think is just neat: meta+Z to go to sleep. it’s funny, memorable, easy to access yet hard to press accidentally. tbh i think it should become standard

5·24 days agothat’s not even a new thing…
my mother had a windows 7 laptop for work, she upgraded it to windows 10 (microsoft did a similar nagging back then) and not only did it become atrociously slow, a bunch of hardware drivers also stopped working, including pretty important stuff like USB
unfortunately linux wouldn’t have been an option cause the software she needed was (and still is) windows only
oh you’re right, it’s gone now. i didn’t even notice
tbh i only remember it working for non-Plasma apps, weirdly enough. stuff like Dolphin or Konsole wouldn’t work with it, but non-Plasma apps (that got decorated with the Plasma titlebar) would support it. maybe that’s why they removed it?

132·27 days agoi get your point but wow i do not want to live in a world where the government can explicitly decide who can have kids and who can’t
do you ever stop to think about it sometimes?
how worked up you are because people use an operating system you don’t like. imagine doing that with other things.
“ugh this shirt is kinda itchy” “well that’s your own damn fault for using this bad shirt!!! next time switch to a better shirt you useless fuck!”
anyone who needs microsoft office. or the adobe suite. or visual studio. or autoCAD. or…
there’s a lot of professional creation software that’s not on linux. and yes, we have alternatives, and they’re cool, but they don’t work for everyone.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Sometimes people like to complain about windows and iOS
3615·1 month agook so a couple things for the people in this thread:
- sometimes, when people complain, they don’t want advice. they just want to vent their frustration. that’s ok. your advice is just gonna come off as annoying, especially
- if they’ve heard it a billion times already. and trust me, if you’re on the fediverse and complain about windows or macos, you’ve heard “just use linux lol” before.
- holy shit stop doing victim blaming. this goes for everything btw. like. stop. “lol your fault for using windows” shut up. if you’re already doing victim blaming for trivial stuff, i don’t trust you for when much more serious problems arise.

11·1 month agothat’s very cool and good job to anyone who managed this, but they’re all either 10 years old, have a bunch of broken essential features, or both… not exactly an iOS replacement

28·1 month agoi just wish OSM was more complete… it’s fine for big cities, but when you live in small rural areas it’s practically useless. my village only has its roads mapped, nothing else.
(and yes i know you can edit the map. and that it’s the entire point of OSM. i know that. but it takes a ton of effort, and it’s an ongoing effort because cities change!)
OSM contributors, you are amazing and cherished and your work does not go unappreciated. i just wish there was more of us…

i mean, car crashes very much also often lead to death
i don’t think speed cameras are a good way to prevent car crashes, but straight up acting like car crashes aren’t a problem worth mitigating is extremely silly
