7·19 days agoYeah. The Debian Free Software Guidelines are actually very strict if you read them. The FSF are just purists, even if 100% free software is the default. I don’t really understand it.
Debian is actually 100% free if you only enable the main repos.
No wonder Stephen Miller is so against citizens wearing masks.
Edward Snowden did try to warn us over a decade ago.
AMD graphics hardware is extremely well supported on every distro out of the box. The Steam Deck, for instance, uses an AMD iGPU.
1·2 months agoPeople care about having an OS not controlled by Big Tech. You might not, but you don’t have to be a dick about it to people who do.
The massively different userlands, mutable root partition by default, root by default, etc.
They are completely different operating systems that just so happen to use the same kernel.
IIRC it’s also not open source, which for me is a big barrier to using it and trusting it at all (other than it being iOS-only).
Yeah, you still can’t install arbitrary IPA files on iOS.
But Apple still knows you downloaded and used the app. Apple collects plenty of data on iOS, and their “privacy” marketing only applies to third party apps downloaded from the App Store.

I originally got introduced to sociallist idiology through Richard Stallman’s speaches. I know he had some, uhh… “interesting” things to say about Epstein’s victims (which I believe he has since redacted), but his speaches are absolutely still worth listening to just for the content alone.

The copyright holder doesn’t legally have to follow the terms of their own license. It sucks that it’s not FOSS, but this isn’t a violation unless there are contributers who didn’t consent to a proprietary distribution.
It works on ARM and it can run in the background if you want it to.
BTW you can use Waydroid to run Android apps on Linux
I would love a Switch-style PC handheld with the full size joysticks, dual touchpads, and back buttons from the Steam Deck.
The Joycon is one of the worst modern controllers I’ve ever used.
