Heh, I put my car in the ditch because I’m used to driving in the south and was attempting to get home for Thanksgiving weekend on all seasons. The tow truck guy sounded pretty busy and it took a few hours for him to come pull me out, so I was far from the only one.

We got 7 to 14 inches in upstate New York recently. Gotta love that lake effect. It’s also been quite chilly.
Quite the opposite, its shape is very radar reflective. It also makes a ton of noise.
I get that, but flying fast and high to avoid missiles is not stealth. I’m not saying it’s not the coolest airplane to ever exist… it’s just not stealth.
Reaper is not stealth at all.
It had radar absorbing paint which helped reduce the radar cross section, but it wasn’t stealth.

VLC is good but I like MPC-HC best. Open source and has a shit load of nerdy ass technical options and great upscaling through madVR.
5% error rate is being very generous, and unlike a human, it won’t ever say “I’m not sure if that’s correct.”
Considering the insane amount of resources AI takes, and the fact it’s probably ruining the research and writing skills of an entire generation, I’m not so sure it’s a good thing, not to mention the implications it also has for mass surveillance and deepfakes.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it true that letting your phone charge to 100% is bad?
10·29 days agoThis is what I do. I allow it to go to 100% for traveling. I don’t need 100% charge when I’m around the house or at work with access to a charger.

711·1 month ago- The “No Plex Shares Needed” Share
Send someone an SMB/NFS share to your media. They install MPV. They can now browse and play your media library like it’s local. No Plex accounts, no streaming limits, no transcoding quality loss.
Yeah, that’s not tenable for anyone but the nerdiest users. None of my users know what an SMB share is. They know Plex is the icon they click on to watch the movies I get them.
I’m glad this exists but the Netflix-like experience Plex offers is key to adoption by normal people. Aside from the yt-dlp integration, it sounds like DLNA sharing via PMS or XBMC from way back.

Technology@lemmy.world•Are we living in a golden age of stupidity?English
253·2 months agoNope, humans have always been stupid. People said the same shit when the printing press was invented, or TV, or whatever.
Seriously, crack a history book. Modern times are actually pretty good, even with all the bullshit.

All seasons are best called rain and cold tires. They are absolutely not “no seasons” and are appropriate in 3 or 4 seasons depending on where you live.
I’ve lived in upstate NY and driven FWD cars with all seasons plenty of times, even in deep accumulation. This was my first time with this car, which happens to have wider tire compared to my old cars, and those plus an off camber turn was the recipe for understeering into a ditch. I was driving at a significantly reduced speed and my car was completely fine after being pulled out.
“You get what you deserve” well, fuck you, too.
