Flathub by default, I just really dislike snaps lol. Ubuntu studios prob a good rec for ppl new to linux and wanting to see what good free creative software is available.
Im learning to make edm visuals on tiktok using primarily Blender. r.EndTimes on ig/rednote, etc.

I really like the top bar, hot corner, workplace swapping on mouse scroll, control center, etc. Kde is a close second for me, and I may be swapping back soon just because I get bored using the same thing. Prob not if you can’t backup your layout, really like what my gnome desktop looks like and its functional/productive.
Tophat is great for quick resource monitoring. Ddterm for a dropdown terminal. Campeek to quickly check webcam. A timer for self timing some online work I do that is self reported. It’s just perfectly setup and not crowded at all while having so much. I do miss the pop out tab sticky notes on kde.
Gnome extensions can look pretty much exactly like kde or better depending on your taste, kde is easier to customize and more intuitive. I like that gnome is extension based with each extension being something you pick, many having their own customization and settings.
Some extensions I like: Arcmenu: start menu like windows, kde, etc. lots of layout options, replaces the hot corner big icon search menu thing
Dash to dock: use on handheld, perfect touchscreen menu customizable or (use one at a time) Dash to panel: use on desktop, even more customizable, basically gives you a panel since gnome by default has the hot corner android like app menu (which I also use mostly on the handheld, love the hot corner for moving stuff around)
Windows thumbnails (pip any window, monitor downloads or chats)
I use a lot more but forget the names, nothing really breaks if you toggle use incompatible addons or whatever it’s called. You can also edit the addon and change the version since that is what the devs do 90% of the time to update it.
Either ppl hated the size or don’t see how it’d be more easily repairable for ppl not living in major cities, like my city doesn’t have a single tech or pc store outside of bestbuy, walmart, target, etc. I dream of microcenter coming here. My ps5 on the other hand, I got 30 repair shops 5 ft away
You can find a ps5/iphone repair dude/shop anywhere, pc isnt as accesible, this may make it easier to mantain them longterm, the ideal prebuilt
Nah its perfect, I always forget or dont wanna carry my tablet, trifold is the perfect size for reading comics when I feel like it. Also a decent size screen for shows and android desktop potentially. Android desktop seems to be moving towards linux support maybe. I stopped following along.

31·2 days agoBazaar has the best search by far, try them all, youll actually find stuff using bazaar, like fps will actually show all the fps, the rest wont, tried them all trying to find the best appstore
The first thing I noticed was how bad the search was on kde and gnome for the software stores. (Tried cosmic, appcenter, etc. also)

1·3 days agoI think cinnamons a better de to demo linux than gnome. I do use it now but itd turn ppl away (like me initially). Kde these days is def a better choice, but it was kinda easy to delete all your panels and end up with nothing last time I used it. Should really prevent you from deleting your last one.

5·2 days agoA lot of things are built into it to be easily installable with less user effort. Has nice defaults. I use cachyos on my pc but on my handheld a lot of stuff wasn’t working by default, like the handhelds buttons/joystick. On bazzite everything works by default. (Think it’s one terminal command to install what is needed for controls in cachyos, but it didn’t work by default) You can still download whatever using rpm ostree, as a user idr know the difference. Grabbed gparted that way. Bazzite has the ujust command which gives you a lot of options for modifying and installing stuff easily like waydroid, emudeck, plugins, etc.
Also prefer gnome with extensions on touchscreens and handhelds, while everything else comes with kde and it’s apps by default. Kde isn’t bad at all and only 1 extension on pc (window thumbnails to pip any window) has me staying on gnome, but gnome works so much better for touchscreens and smaller devices.

Idk how useful the language models specifically are, ai everywhere else is useful. Like in gene sequencing and making mediciine. Ai can like find diffrerent combinations that make the same result, idr why thats good, just that itd take humans many many years to simulate what they can have ai run through.
I tried hosting for myself and 6 months in it was hitting memory limits (prob because of friendica and sharkey on the same instance) Did not care enough about hosting my own content to deal with that.

3·10 days agoLiterally everytime I use it, I’m like why didn’t I check before, I was so lost before, Id just give up and close all my tabs. Now I easily keep track of 100s, know where everything is and why they all exist because they are organized and easy to check at a glance. Really easy to load and unload tabs. Almost forgot you can split screen tabs super easily too, it’s my favorite way of using it, don’t need multiple windows.

Sunshine was pretty effortless on cachyos for me, did you install it using pacman?
