The only logical reason for them forcing users into their own, proprietary snap store, when a user is trying to install from another source, is they want complete control over that ecosystem. And the only reason for that is so that they can eventually sell it to a huge player like Microsoft or Google or Amazon.
They are completely untrusted with that slimy move.
I use Talon voice. It’s software that let’s me use the pc still, due to write severe RSI.
However, Wayland doesn’t allow a lot of functionality that tools like this need.
Therefore, anyone who requires a tool similar to Talon, needs X11.

Yeah snap killed Ubuntu for me. I used pop for years, flirted with fedora, but, vanilla Debian is just so good and reliable, that’s where I’ve landed.

After a long, unhealthy relationship, I ended up in a very promising relationship.
It took many years if half truths to her, and then full disclosures, and eventually, a full and total disclosure of my past, my desires, my weaknesses, the whole lot.
She barely flinched. She saw me for who I was / am.
From that moment we bonded deeper than I’ve ever thought possible.
Nobody could hijack us. Nothing could try to surprise us and derail / damage us. Shame was thrown out the window. There is none. We know everything. We meet as honestly as is possible each day.
Do it. I highly recommend it. However, there was a right time. If we’d done it too early, we wouldn’t have worked.

Yup. I’m on my 2016 NUC. Next year is its 10th and i MAY upgrade. However, it’s still doing well. I’ll see what I can get out of it.
This is how I do it. I don’t let it move my files.
I went from about eight years on Duolingo, not progressing, and within one year in a class environment, I eclipsed my eight years easily. 4 years in German class, I have friends, and am in Germany now, listening to my wife and her old friends shoot the shit, and I understand a LOT of it. More than they’d like me to 😁
I started taking German classes and it’s a small class of about 15 people and the bulk of them are now casual friends a few years later. Some good friends. It’s awesome.
In a matter of a week or two I upgraded from UI 5 to 6 to 7.
The move from 5 to 6 more than halved my battery life instantly.
In one go my phone went from lasting about a day and a half roughly, to needing to be charged by just after lunch time. Absolute disgrace.
So then I upgraded again with all the promises I’d read that it has improved performance and battery life and it’s dropped at least by another 15%.
My phone is lucky to make it to lunchtime now, thanks to these upgrades.
I got a cheap aldi one years ago. Total workhorse. Highly recommended.
