The amount of people that I personally know, who i have convinced to try out linux, AND END UP CHOOSING ARCH AS THEIR FIRST DISTRO, IS TOO DAMN HIGH >:^[
Idk where these people get the idea from, I never mentioned arch to them but some how it just happens.
Help.
ngl i only made this comment hoping someone would provide a solution lmao
majority of the features does work but when it comes to plotting in octave, nothing shows up. last time i checked it was something to do with qt(something).
for rstudio i dont remember what problems i had but booting into x11 solved these issues.
rstudio and octave is holding me back T_T

4·5 months agoIf I remember correctly (from my mom who grew up in Taiwan) asus, acer, and msi(?) used to be one giant company that was split into three. so it doesnt really surprise me that their design teams share some cringe similarities ( okay i mean like ik this split was a long time ago but like they all do the same thing).
i always thought rog (republic of gamers) was just a play on roc (republic of china aka taiwan). Im just waiting for gigabyte to come out with peoples republic of gamers
this is good wallpaper material
I recommend Nobara OS nvidia version. This comes with drivers during initial installation so no need to follow wiki guides and spend additional time carefully installing stuff. The biggest “plus” is that (assuming you are using discord), they have a pretty large discord server where you can ask questions and stuff.
Even though its just a spin on fedora, I think this community and distro is good for newcomers who also game.
looks like its another night of pbj sandwich. again.
thank you i will do what you tell me, thank you i will do what you tell me, thank you i will do what you tell me, thank you i will do what you tell me, UHHHHHHHH
and his song is a fucking BANGER. Glory glory hallelujah!!!

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Unlike in movies, most smart people aren't good in chess.
4·10 months agoI dont play a lot of chess and I’m bad at it but I recommend playing chess puzzles or timed chess. If it helps, just think of it as a mini skermish on one area of the “map”.
While there is competitive chess, I think the advantage it has over most things is that many people know how to play and that most of the time its a casual background game. Like you aren’t trying to win, you are trying to not lose.
When someone is playing at a house party, it’s so much fun to make wierd faces after they played a move or so.

4·10 months agoYeah… everytime I see it in movies I kinda cringe. However it still is an effective narrative tool to say that the person is a stategist or is in a higher tax bracket ( or honestly any quality that the common viewer doesn’t have). Even so, I wish writers would stop doing this.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What's your favorite DE, and what does your workflow look like?
3·1 year agoMy memory is foggy but ive used xfce for a long while, then switched to i3gaps with void linux. stopped using linux cuz they couldn’t locate the developer or something( like we didn’t get updates for half a year 0_o)
… I ended up forgetting how to use i3. I dont know what the community uses nowadays but my god i3 was AMAZING. It felt like a caveman that just learned how to make fire- and it was a big fucking fire.
I reaaaaally want to use i3 again but do not want to spend the time relearning everything. Highly recommend it though.

Technology@lemmy.world•Trump to impose 25% to 100% tariffs on Taiwan-made chips, impacting TSMCEnglish
251·1 year agoFrom what I understand one of the things that is protecting Taiwan from China is their fabs. They will fight for their lives to make sure they are protected by this.
As someone with family over in Taiwan, I really want them to be okay. Things are getting depressing globally.

4·1 year agoIm at a similar place as you where I do as much gaming on linux as possible but then there are some games that just do not work :(. At this point Im really thinking about playing warzone on a console since there is support for keyboard and mouse (last time I checked).

I hate microsoft but really liked windows phone and cortana. Something about tiles made a lot of sense and the keyboard was clean af.
I am very sure they were the first to have url bar above the keyboard in their browser WHICH WAS VERY HELPFUL BECAUSE YOUR FINGERS ARE ALREADY AT THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE PHONE LIKE OMFG.
like there was so many little things they did that just worked and worked well. rip windows phone, i will tell my grandkids about you.
