Star Citizen@lemmy.world•Ex-CIG Dev Blows Off Some Steam...
2·4 months agoCool conversations/world building can really add to an experience.
You start getting issues when the script/writing/lore is not good and it’s a huge part of the game.

Star Citizen@lemmy.world•Ex-CIG Dev Blows Off Some Steam...
3·4 months agoI don’t know how effective the office bling would be considering their average (not median) salary levels as per UK filings. It seems very low for the second largest city in the UK.
And the median is likely to be somewhat less than the average that was reported.

New Communities@lemmy.world•Strategy Games - Computer games with a strategic component; construction, expansion, armies, economic development.English
6·5 months agoNot really sure, I would argue it may make sense to re-direct them to !strategy_games@piefed.world, it was mostly me posting or Elevator crossposting my posts.
I would rather contribute to a piefed community unless a Lemmy community is already established (moves are annoying). For example, some members of !crpg@lemmy.world preferred to stay on LW, so I am not going to rock the boat since it’s relatively active.

Star Citizen@lemmy.world•Roadmap Roundup - August 13, 2025English
1·6 months agoJust glib speculation on my part. 😆
This will be a new ship, it will sort of work, but then be quickly abandoned once most of the sales pass the 30 day refund period.

Star Citizen@lemmy.world•Star Citizen's Open Development Is DEAD.English
7·6 months agoI actually disagree that SC ever leveraged open development. Early videos were more theorycrafting and later stuff was more about maintaining confidence to keep the cash shop rolling (base game sales account for maybe 10-15% of their the money they get).
Something like Plan B: Terraform (you can literally discuss game mechanics, engine limitations, current features with devs on discord and steam) or Colony Survival do actually use open development.
That being said, while the title is a bit bombastic for my tastes, there is some interesting exploration of recent changes in CIG’s video content strategy, that’s why I decide to post this.
I think this could be interesting for non-sceptics as well.

2·7 months agoIMO the tone of the post is not very productive, it almost has a “volunteer PR” feel to it.

7·8 months agoThat’s not exploration gameplay.
But they sold too many exploration JPEGs to admit that.
Got it. Cheers!
Is this a complete Idris (i.e. actual gameplay for a full set of players), or this an incomplete variant?

2·9 months agoThis is pretty funny.
Sure, but centre-right (real conservatives, not far right and oligarch shills) should have a voice on Lemmy.

Star Citizen@lemmy.world•Cloud Imperium UK Ltd's 2023 Accounts Are Not PrettyEnglish
41·10 months agoI would argue they still have a comparable excuse that they can use. Even in the context of server meshing style copytext, they can go with dynamic server meshing.

Star Citizen@lemmy.world•Cloud Imperium UK Ltd's 2023 Accounts Are Not Pretty
21·10 months agoThere is no reason to believe that server meshing will be the magic bullet that “will open the floodgates of content”.
It’s more likely a PR strategy that they have grown used to using (be it for server meshing, earlier “magic techs”, or whatever the next “magic tech” will be).
Not a single statement about the affected employees (e.g. “we will be providing severance” etc.), just some in-game bullshit.
Roberts doesn’t even reference the actual employees working there and instead talks about how it’s bittersweet the studio is being shut down.
What a typical corporate roach.
Don’t think I’ve seen any overbearing moderation. :)
Seems like we are on the same page with respect to the rules. Cheers!

There will almost certainly be 20-30 hours of cutscenes in SQ42 if it does actually release at some point and then don’t just keep saying “it will be ready in two years [from current year]” as they have more than a decade.
I personally wouldn’t call the WC3 cutscenes good. Not so much the technical aspect (low resolution), but the stort and characters.
I watched it later in the 2000s, I would imagine the FMV as an experience was nice when it was released.
