There’s some power sipping mini ITX boards that are intended for servers. They are Intel N150 based and let you add a ton of ram. I have one in a Jonsbo NAS case with 6 drives in a ZFS pool. If you’re inclined to build your own, you have lots of options.
Italy looks like the thin strip of land in this comparison.
It’s interesting to see a modern, POSIX compliant, Unix implementation characterized as a children’s toy. These arguments are simple minded. I develop on a Mac, and deploy it to Linux in most cases. And yes I do understand that this is also possible on widows now - but not my preference.
I see various forms of peacocking these days. The other one is blasting a 1sq mile radius with music from a vehicle.
Incidentally this meme captures my reaction when I see Clint Eastwood.

Agreed - and make those drivers open source and unrestricted
Worth a try. Highly capable. It’s my default.
I banished Windows from my life a long time ago. My quality of life improved shortly thereafter. I had reached rock bottom after spending a day trying to unbugger my mother in law’s computer. It felt like waking up after a long bender in a pile of my own sick. She caused the pain herself because Windows invited it without guardrails - yet somehow I was holding the bag. I’m Windows-clean now and no longer offer to try (or agree) to help. I know the personal risks. I support you if you’re still enraptured by the Windows range and despair. I get it. Getting clean isn’t easy. Gather the strength.
I don’t have to use a perl script to view the contents of a file?
open(my $fh, ‘<’, ‘filename.txt’) or die “Could not open file: $!”; while (my $line = <$fh>) { print $line; } close($fh);
Sick!
Parasite lays thousands of eggs that the host craps out in its feces to continue the trend in perpetuity. Both species survive as a species.
The least rewarding purchase I had to make was a boiler for a house. It’s not like something you can show off to your friends. Just thousands in expense to maintain functional parity.

Tailscale.

Jellyfin. Tailscale. Bob’s your uncle.
“valuation” I suppose. The “value” that we project onto something whether that something has truly earned it.

Linux squashes root over ssh. An OEM could preinstall a sudo user to get around this but that kind of BS would be their death knell as a vendor.

Neither Linux nor Windows but it’s a sensible guess :)

Nothing to do with Windows? Are we sure about that? Asus is a Windows OEM that pre installs Windows and has enough privileged access to insert a surreptitious executable compiled specifically for Windows.
Yes, agreed, if they chose a *nix like OS and they had root, they could do the same thing and that would be equally shitty. It is Windows OEMs that exhibit this kind of fsckery and yes we do have a choice.

Windows is a choice. You made it. Congratulations.
A difference in definition of consciousness perhaps. We’ve already seen signs of self preservation in some cases. Claude resorting to blackmail when being told it was going to be retired and taken offline. This might be purely mathematical and algorithmic. Then again the human brain might be nothing more than that as well.
