I still can’t get over the fact that there’s just no way to prevent Windows 11 home edition from ever rebooting automatically.

I’m glad that at least one government is stepping in to protect the helpless public from the menace of, uh, ads over five seconds long. Disaster averted.
Some hound breeds are pretty creepy.

Windows is transitioning from being software you run to being an experience that Microsoft provides to you. The pattern of pushing new features to users unpredictably and without the option to refuse is clearly inappropriate in the first model but natural in the second. As a power user I strongly prefer the first model, but I recognize that most people these days might be ok with having their computer work like a website they access or an app they run on their phone - something they have no control over the state of.
How unusual! I don’t think I have ever personally met a dog that didn’t like cars. Mine loved them enough to try to jump into strangers’ cars.
They understand dog carriers and cars, so my guess is that they think of an elevator as something like the other boxes used to move them around, but without windows. With that said, a big part of raising puppies is teaching them to just ignore strange things that they don’t understand, so I doubt that most dogs think about elevators much. Mine had zero reaction to the elevator on the first time he rode in one, but he was the kind of dog who didn’t even mind fireworks as long as he could see that I was relaxed.
Bing used to be better than Google for a time but it has gotten worse too to the point where I use Google again. Edge is, IMO, unfairly maligned. It’s a perfectly good browser, although Microsoft begging me to use it is quite annoying.

Do people actually like pizza with the crust so flaccid and the cheese so melty that it drips off? A good slice doesn’t come apart before you can eat it.
(Any innuendo is deliberate.)

The PSF is (presumably) already required to comply with Federal anti-discrimination laws. Am I misreading the text or does it not actually create any new obligations for the PSF if they were to accept the grant?
My dog would only let me leave without barking and whining if he was eating while I walked out the door. If I had to come back, then I had to give him food again.

You’re right in general, but 1:50,000 implies an average lifespan of 137 years, unless I’m missing something. I think 1:15,000 is a more reasonable estimate.

I read the full paper and I’m not qualified to evaluate the validity of the model being proposed but I find the idea that the population was
about 1000 individuals, which persisted for about 100,000 years
rather implausible. Implausible things sometimes turn out to be true but models frequently turn out to be wrong so if I were to bet, I would bet on the latter.
Plus, for the purpose of the OP, I think neanderthals and other close relatives of modern humans should count as people even if they have no living descendants.

The human population would have to be in the tens of thousands for that to be likely, and I’m not sure it was ever so low unless we’re arguing about technicalities regarding who counts as human during the process of evolution.
That… doesn’t seem bad? No one would mind if he also put some vegetables in there and called it a pasta salad.

Checkmate feminists.
Why would the dude go to a graveyard while wearing a suit of armor? Is it in enemy territory? Did he have to fight his way in?

Keep in mind that the conditions before life formed were quite different than the conditions once it had already been established. Once life exists, there is a competition for resources. Fewer building blocks will be just floating around and available for spontaneous development of new life and a new replicator will be unlikely to survive in an environment filled with far more sophisticated replicators that have had a head start.
My Windows is more like “I am scheduling the restart. Pray I don’t schedule it any sooner.”
It’s straight to Hell for you, no Purgatory.
Another good article about this.
