  • I totally agree - and depending on your needs & budget, slightly older server-grade equipment idle power usage is much higher compared to consumer stuff (servers didn’t really know how to idle until “recently”). And also if you don’t host a tone of different things for different users (ie you don’t need all the pcie lanes) you get so much faster CPUs for the same monies.

The only server-grade things you need are ofc disk drives that are gonna do server stuff.

And a good PSU (but a nice Seasonic is almost server-grade anyways). When ppl talk about power usage they tend to forget PSUs (they check their PC usage with a shitty PSU that itself can’t idle low & maybe doesn’t even get to 90% at peak loads).

  • Some individuals even have articulated limbs capable of blocking specific overly bright spots of their point-of-view at a comfortable distance from the eyes.

While laborious & not as cool as driving several tons at speed blind, some would insist that driving without such high-level-of-complexity solution wound be insane.

  • I randomly separate by data packages & encode that data into the DNA of various insects & such critters that then burrow down to the tier 1 and tier 2 internets & are trained to transmit that data.

A separate group is standing by at different locations to collect the data & report back to me the results of me signing into my Google account with my full name & billing address as well as the results of by image search for “naked boobs”.

There is a bit of ping, but the bandwidth can be scaled nicely.

  • A post like this is a disservice to the majority everyone.

Even harmful as it promotes software that should be run only on rare hardware (eg RISC-V with all the fully hardware level open peripherals too) the extremely vast majority of users do not have any practical access to.
All with the premise on some technicality you don’t even explain (bcs then it would make it obvious, why such distros shouldn’t be used by majority).
And you don’t even mention that.

Not to mention saying that Linux distros are as bad as Windows locking you into closed code.

I mean lol. That’s is just intentionally dishonest.

It’s like claiming hydrogen gas is harmful to you in the same way as “standing” on the surface of the Sun.

This post makes me feel sad, bcs the basis you hinge on is an important PSA to spread around.
How else am I ever gonna get a decent open-hardware PC?

(And just to not be misunderstood, I love what FSF strands for and is doing all this time, it’s a beacon for the way forward - but we have to navigate to there.)
