Technology@lemmy.world•Luigi Mangione, CEO shooting suspect, is a tech workerEnglish
21·1 year agoThe future vice president of America is close with the leaders of the neoreactionary movement. I suppose, I wonder if a positive public opinion would make it easier for them to mobilize.
Edit: ending up with support from both sides of the isle.

31·1 year agoThat’s a sensible way to look at it. People’s actions can be separate from thier outlook, and that’s ok.

Technology@lemmy.world•Luigi Mangione, CEO shooting suspect, is a tech workerEnglish
21·1 year agoFair take. That wasn’t my intention, although, now, I suppose that maybe a natural progression.
I admit, there is definitely a disconnect, considering his actions, but, I really am torn on the idea. I guess, I question that if (and big if) his intention is to build this type of future, would his actions be enough to make others sympathetic to his cause? If, or at what point, people turn away?

2·1 year agoIt could just be the tech culture he was around, and not the actual reasoning. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

611·1 year agoDoes everyone still feel the same if he turns out to be a neoreactionary / accelerationist?
Per The San Francisco Standard
Mangione gave Ted Kaczynski’s book “Industrial Society and Its Future” four out of five stars, writing that the man known as the Unabomber was “rightfully imprisoned” for “maiming innocent people” but noting that his actions were “those of an extreme political revolutionary.”
Mangione’s social media accounts paint a picture of a tech enthusiast with a soft spot for conservative thinkers. He has retweeted posts from right-wing capitalists like Peter Thiel and lists an applauding biography of Elon Musk as one of his favorites on GoodReads.

Technology@lemmy.world•Bluesky is cracking down on parody accounts and impersonatorsEnglish
2·1 year agoAnd considering there’s so many new accounts, its not like one can go back and check the post history to see if what they’re saying adds up.
There were accounts, posting seemingly “up to date” information with no way to really fact check. There were some political “personal” accounts just testing the waters with BS. Stuff like: “It’s me. I’m not going to say anything else yet, but, here I am.” It made it kinda hard to discern.

Technology@lemmy.world•Niantic uses Pokémon Go player data to build AI navigation systemEnglish
1·1 year agoYou’d be surprised how a pokemon go player will open the app in the middle of the wilderness, even with one questionable reception bar, just to see if there’s a secret rare pokemon that lives there. Bonus if you get a postcard from a pokestop someone submitted, because that trail mile marker is “special.” You can keep it for memories, or send it to a friend you’ve never spoken to, for bragging rights. It’s also not unheard of, for people to crawl through backroads in their car, since the app won’t let catch pokemon or count km’s, if you go more than ±15 mph.
Well, Texas DID requre annual inspections. This is the last year. On Jan 2025, annual inspections will no longer be required, although, some counties will still require emissions testing, and you still have to pay the fee.

2·1 year agoGotcha.
Upon looking into it further it seems they just bought the design department. That’s crazy.
I used to love HTC phones, and was a loyal customer. Glad they’re trying to make a comeback.

2·2 years agoNah, it’s good. No pressure. These are just resources that I kinda had to stumble across, although im sure theyre in some super accessible place and im just a ding dong. Figured if they could help another person, then so be it.
It’s hard times right now, you do what you gotta do to keep on keeping on. Lemmy.world is a completely fine choice. They’re a large, mainstream place to get comfortable in. But, if you get bored one day and want to check out what else is out there, you’ve got something to get you started.
I wish you luck, some free time, and some peace of mind.

I will say that although it technically doesnt matter what instance you sign up with, sometimes the descriptions aren’t very descriptive at all. Definitely give an instance a browse, to get a feel for the overall vibe, before you sign up.
You can check to see if an instance has been defederated from / by other instances, by entering said instance address at https://defed.xyz/

Technology@lemmy.world•77% Of Employees Report AI Has Increased Workloads And Hampered Productivity, Study FindsEnglish
6·2 years agoThe summary for the post kinda misses the mark on what the majority of the article is pushing.
Yes, the first part describes employees struggling with AI, but the majority of the article makes the case for hiring more freelancers and updating “outdated work models and systems…to unlock the full expected productivity value of AI.”
It essentially says that AI isn’t the problem, since freelancers can use it perfectly. So full time employees need to be “rethinking how to best do their work and accomplish their goals in light of AI advancements.”

3·2 years agoSupposedly, met the son of a higher up in Armani, in college. He told us about how their jeans cost something like $2.50 (in the early 2000s) to make in an exploited factory in Bangladesh, and how everyone who would buy their jeans for $100 (or more) a pop was an idiot. They were making out like bandits and paying their workers next to nothing.

Also, depending on what you move, make sure to take into account areas with drought, and future rain and heat patterns. Climate change is only going to get worse. Make sure you have a secure water supply to work with.

Actually the die mart was my very closest convenience store. Nice guy from Nepal was always behind the counter. Homeless guy would sleep behind the trash cans on the side. Once, he overdosed at the bus stop across the street. Although, the signs lights were out before this happened, maybe there’s more to the name than we realize…
