Technology@lemmy.world•Google Maps changes Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America’ for U.S. usersEnglish
102·2 days agoI mean, you can only enforce it in your own jurisdiction, right?
Your country can decide to call Sweden Poop-land, your own localized maps will label it Poop-land, but on swedish maps it will still be called Sverige.

214·2 days agoI wouldn’t call this an instance of that. Trump as far as I understand stupidly but legally changed the name.
of course. I’m alluding to the fact that while theres been a significant improvement, we still in many places consume worrying amounts of lead.
That is still a very worrying sentence when the only safe level is 0

they are an invasive species
Thats mostly false in my experience, though that will depend on the locality i guess. On the contrary, a lot of garden plants are invasive in the local ecosystem

4·2 months agoYou have it backwards. Larger vehicles of course have more energy, but pedestrians are too light for that to make a difference.
If you get hit by an oil tanker ship going ~1 kmh, that ship has orders of magnitude more kinetic energy than a car at highway speed, yet, unless theres a wall or something, the ship will merely push you harmlessly aside.
Its about the manner of delivery, not the vehicles energy.
Larger cars are more dangerous because they hit you higher up, where you have more vital organs.

7·2 months agoI agree, large cars are generally much more lethal to pedestrians, due to their shape, not kinetic energy.

76·2 months agoThats not how kinetic energy works, no pedestrian is heavy enough to stop any car, small or large.

I agree. It is unprecedented (and stupid), yet he did do it. As far as I know executive orders has been used as a do anything tool, so why would this specific thing cross the line?
Executive orders are a ridiculous and undemocratic notion to begin with, but the US does have them (together with Liberia, Nigeria, the Philippines).
