They are certainly cooler than you and I can tell that from three really stupid messages, you aren’t on Reddit anymore pal!

Technology@lemmy.ml•Reddit is removing ability to opt out of ad personalization based on your activity on the platform
5·2 years agoThe feature is actually older than any cookie banner (do not track request) but idk if the EU will overwork the law that way, it’s a miracle that it passed at all and I would be surprised if the loopholes aren’t made for some lobbyists in the first place!

2·2 years agoI couldn’t agree more, a single look at our newspapers in Austira reveals a sad trueth, even the good ones use illegal “consent or pay” cookie banners!

5·2 years agoThe method of “enforcment” for that part of the GDPR is awful but for a big and fairly hated player like Reddit it will probably actually work, some organization or competitor just has to file a formal complaint. There was some NGO a few years ago that filed cimplaints against various big players and got platforms like Twitch to fix their banners that way but idk what happened to them!

21·2 years agoWell, that’s certainly illegal too, the GDPR requires opt-in and while there is room for interpritation (see all the shitty cookie banners) if you enable anything by default it’s not going to fly!

105·2 years agoUhm, that option was intreduced by sites and ad networks because the GDPR requires it so unless they plan to shut down buisness in the EU it’s probably going to fail!

1·2 years agoIf I had to guess it would get DNS blocked by all European providers, that’s not a effective ban if you want to deny access but it’s a death sentence for a buisness!

1·2 years agoIf you operate a buisness in Germany and do something with that that’s illegal in the US as well you might actually be but I don’t think that applies for the super rich tbh, no one of them will ever go to jail, the best we can hope for is a beheading in some revolution or by some terrorist group!

1·2 years agoTwitter actually got sued in Germany for failure to moderate hate speech already, that could cost him 33 billion euros!

11·2 years agoNicotine vapes are a decent way to stop smoking (using one myself) but other than that it’s basically just harmful bs. Vape liquids include all kinds of garbage that increase lung conditions of all kinds, especially in the US where they are underregulated af!
That seems more like a direct competitor to Slack and MS Team to me rather than general communication. Matrix is a facinating protocol that keeps pushing the limits of federated communication but it always sucked as replacment for those and unless someone invests huge amounts of money in a completely new client I don’t see taht changing any time soon tbh.

Technology@beehaw.org•AI Lie: Machines Don’t Learn Like Humans (And Don’t Have the Right To)
2·2 years agoThat’s a philosophical debate we can’t really answer and not a lie, the question is if we do anything other than copy. The without any doubt biggest elephant in the room is the fact that AIs don’t remember and iterate like we do yet but that’s probably just a matter of time, other than that the very different environment we learn in is another huge issue if you try to make any comparison. It’s a tricky question that we might never know the answe to but it’s also facinating to think about and I don’t think rejecting the idea alltogether is a especially good answer.

3·2 years agoI don’t understand shit like that, they are tools, not totally accurate ones but unless you use Bing they do produce a lot of good stuff if used correctly…
