It flew near the edge of the atmosphere and was so fast that when it was finally picked up at that range by the less advanced radars of the time it would already have been out of the range of missiles. Things had cameras on board that were apparently capable of getting a good shot of a license plate from damn near the edge of space (in the 70’s!). I have read there were plans for a bomber version but apparently that didn’t come to be. It’s a shame none are still flying. NASA had a few they obtained and used for upper atmospheric research after the airforce and CIA were done with them, but flying and maintaining them is crazy specialized and expensive. The older U2 spyplanes were made for similar altitudes and found to be a much cheaper and more practical option for that purpose so the SR-71’s were retired.

I’ve always half assumed the autobahn is littered with crankshaft and connecting rod chunks, various pools of oil and coolant, and the various now worthless vehicles they came from. Oh, and many tire marks that lead right into barriers.
But some guy from the middle east said he saw a burning bush speak to him. No, there was no way it was just alcohol poisoning, sleep deprivation, or schizophrenia, none of those reasonable explanations had been invented yet. It could only have been god. /s
I’m very skeptical that the Chinese government having your data as an American is worse than the American government and corporations (you know, the people with applicable jurisdiction) having it. Seems more likely to me that American interests just weren’t happy about a huge platform of Americans not being under their umbrella of control and censorship. Sure, you could argue that China of course has their own, but the two wouldn’t completely overlap, so there were windows where things could be freely and organically discussed and organized by Americans, without American government and corporate interference. Obviously that couldn’t be allowed to stand.

Even if you end up being killed take at least one of the henchmen with you. Make them aware that they must choose which of their colleagues is going in first and not going home to their family. If you don’t get the due process the constitution guarantees, one of them will eat lead.
