That’s actually super cool! (Admittedly, one of my favourite youtube channels is practical engineering so I am not an authority on actual coolness.)
Did you folks not have Red Shoe Diaries?
Honestly, carefully looking on marketplace, being willing to travel to the bougie end of town got me a high end microwave for cheapish and I’m never ever going back.
Sensor reheat, just heats my damn food. Frozen food setting, hell yeah, all thawed perfectly.
The rich live better and I’m fine enjoying their leavings.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Five years ago The Freedom Convoy formed to protest the government taking away peoples rights. Today peoples rights are actually being taken away and there's not even a whimper.
491·9 months agoRelated story, basically the hardest I laughed during covid.
Being a good Vancouverite, when those convoy fucks wanted to parade around and honk at hospitals, hundreds or thousands of us with bikes got in their way and kept them away from the hospitals.
Okay, so we’re blocking an arterial and some convoy fuck is screaming at us about how, in his words, “we’ve got to protest smarter.” He then finally realizes we have been politely letting non convoy cars through the lane next to him, so floors the accelerator and aims for that lane. But, he didn’t shoulder check and slammed right into a car in that lane in front of a cop. So for the next however long we got to point and laugh while advising him about the merits of shoulder checking and how he needed to drive smarter.
Gotta love when an asshole causes a 100% fault car crash with no injuries.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Everyday I have to block dozen of "x"-moe communities while scrolling the main feed. Is there an easier way to purge anime from main page?
181·9 months agoI can’t speak for OP but personally, I want to help as many small lil communities as I can as I think that’s the best way to expand.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are we modern humans, across the board, enormous wussies compared to people, say, 150+ years ago?
6·9 months agoPhysically, most of us are way weaker and in worse physical shape. (Look at old time photos for far people, or sideshow people labelled as “world’s fattest man” who would not raise an eyebrow lumbering through walmart these days.) I wonder how the balance of more manual work vs our sedentary and fatty lifestyles would play out.
I also think folks were more ready to die or get hurt as that’s just how things happened, so probably more willing to be beaten as part of a strike etc.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you believe that most people of your political creed don't?
15·9 months agoI have no idea what point you’re trying to make other than, I dunno, some crazy shit like everyone who disagrees with you is a Zionist or something?
But I stand by that post, if you voted for a third party, you helped trump. If you’re trying to wrap your stupidity around the plight of the Palestineans you either aren’t following the news or never really cared about them in the first place.
I get that this is probably the first humanitarian crisis you’ve seen on social media and pretended to care about but as you grow up, hopefully you’ll realize there are sometimes unfortunate restrictions around your choices. While I would have loved a better option than the Dems, the choice was them or trump. If you voted third party, you helped put an administration that is absolutely hostile to them and worse than what would’ve been the case otherwise.
Sorry if reality sucks but whining about it like a petulant child isn’t going to change it or rally others to your cause.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you believe that most people of your political creed don't?
15·9 months agoAhahaha, “As long as you’re respectful one can disagree.” And a paragraph later “hey, this guy pointed out trump would be worse for Palestineans that means he is down with genoicde!!!”
Could you prove my point much harder?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What do you believe that most people of your political creed don't?
125·9 months agoI think on the Left we have a “virtuous” cycle/feedback loop that results in increasingly outlandish positions.
Essentially, for most people there’s a serotonin feedback when people upvote, applaud, reteeet etc. People, responding to incentives like anyone else shift their online discourse to match.
Similarly, even beyond the positive feedback, on thr Left no one wants to be a white cis male contradicting the feelings, emotions or arguments of a POC or LGBTQ+ person.
The Right doesn’t really have this problem as the Far right opinions are generally understood to be reprehensible to most people so those movements have evolved to work on dog whistles etc.
It’s a structural issue but one that puts us out of touch with the mainstream (consider defund the police, transgender athletes or immigration until we were getting murdered in the polls and it was too late to do anything.)
Ha, in retrospect I should’ve looked around earlier too!
Thanks for sharing, much appreciated.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•(Not sure if you guys can answer this) Guy at my sister’s school keeps meowing? Is this just teenage behavior?
6·10 months agoThank fuck social media wasn’t around when I was a weird 10 year old.
I just think of literally all available evidence points one way, it’s pretty silly to argue every piece is incorrect.
You remind me of people defending Cosby et al with “well, sure but they could ALL be lying.” Like, it’s conceivably possible but seems extremely unlikely.
Cheers.
You might just be too online to remember the comment to which you are responding which was:
I think strip clubs are the counterpoint to “both sexes are equally horny.”
You also haven’t even given a thesis statement just, “I dunno can’t say who’s hornier” even though your initial position was in fact
Women are very capable of being horny for horny’s sake.
I mean, I’m not arguing that women can’t or don’t get horny, that’s fucking silly. What I’ve said all along was that I don’t think both genders are equally horny and on the basis of the evidence, it seems like guys are hornier. You can whine about the evidence but you’ve produced nothing to the contrary besides a bunch of complaints that range from tenuous to outright silly. It’s pretty easy to complain about evidence, especially without having to reference reality so much as random hypotheticals. Anyhow, for a last time and for funsies, I’ll laugh through these claims but then I think I’m done. It’s not like this is particularly productive, nor have you made anything close to a compelling point and you seem to have way more spare time than I do. I’m happy to engage with folks but this “NANANANANANANANAANANANANANANA NOTHING CAN BE PROVEN” isn’t a particularly interesting position.
Anyhow, here are your “points” but with logic/jokes.

"ahhh, women are put off by porn and in the entire world, no one has figured out how to get them back or build websites catered to them. (Even though such websites exist, and are just much smaller.)
-
Yes, women only like books. And piracy only affects books.
-
Cool. And this affects how most porn is hetero based with the idea you want to see naked women, how? Like, most people running these sites are too dumb to figure out they have another market?
-
“Hey, I’ve accidentally disproven my argument! When I was arguing that women are afraid to go to strip clubs, on dating apps etc and this is why people think women aren’t as horny, I actually meant, any woman who wants to can easily go out and get laid.” Ya can’t have it both ways. Either most women don’t want as much online stuff because it’s so easy and acceptable to go out in the real world and get laid OR they aren’t out in the real world indicators of horniness because of society/fear/etc.
-
This might take the cake for the least thought through “point.” Like, everyone in porn is so uniquely bad at business that they’ve decided women are invaluable despite the plethora of online websites aimed at women.
Have a good day.

They may feel just as much hornyness and express it more privately. How can you be confident?
Great question! If only there were some means to access sexual material in the privacy of one’s home. Some sort of world wide web that allowed users to access pretty much their heart’s desire online… Wait a minute, that exists! And (unsurprisingly) mozt of the sexual material skews heavily male.
For your proposition of equal horniness to be true, one of two must be true: A)women are so repressed they don’t even want sexual materials in which case, even if it’s cultural and not biological, women are functionally less horny or B) they are so terrified that someone will bust in and search their web history which seems kind of a bizzare amount of repression.
Like it is even important for me say wealth inequality in the world means that sex spending better represents rich countries interests?
Okay, can you then admit that in rich countries, it appears that men are, on average, hornier than women?
I mean, yes, sex is often free but if one gender is willing to pay significantly more it seems like a pretty reasonable indicator that one gender values/desires sex more.
I dunno, just seems like you are very much determined that something is true with zero evidence. Some people have religion, you have this belief. Except with religion, there’s not reams of physical evidence you’ve decided to disregard because you dislike the conclusions they represent.
Yes, romance novels are popular, relative to the dying publishing industry. In terms of money per industry, there’s no comparing online porn to smut novels though.
Basically, all you’ve been able to claim is that you have known some ladies you feel are as horny as you think average guys are and no amount of “okay, let’s see if this holds up in the world beyond your perception of a handful of people” will change your mind. It’s kind of wild in a silly little way.
I’m super curious if there’s any evidence anyone could present that would change your mind?
Edit: Was curious, turns out global pornography (all genders) is worth somewhere between 10 and 97 billion annually. In comparison, the entire romance novel industry is worth about almost 1.5 billion.

https://economics-charts.com/how-much-money-does-pornography-make/
Unsure where you’re getting my sample from.
I’m using actual things that exist rather than my own experience because I understand that my experiences are not universal and are inherently subjective. Making blanket statements based on anyone’s experience is nonsensical.
And businesses, like online porn catering to men are pretty decent proof that men are hornier, that’s how capitalism works. Where a desire exists, businesses will fill it. Unless women are drastically poorer (a little so but hardly enough to rationalize an entire industry all but not existing) then a lack of demand indicates… you guessed it, a lack of demand.

Thanks!
