AI energy usage is not an “ai problem”. Rancid oligarchs and zombie corpos should not be allowed to pillage from our air, water, and soil. Attacking ai specifically for this solves nothing. You can’t possibly be what you claim to be. All the other problems with your argument aside, it is not trivial to make a model that is “safe” and functional at the same time. It has not been done.

AI is a universe simulator that uses the fuzzy logic of language instead of hard math. It is a real-time interface between the human and thousand of years of collective knowledge and understanding. It is an epoch change, even if you remove the idea that it is a thinking being like you.

How do you get to nukes and biological weapons that kill millions without them?

Electric motors and encyclopedias are irreplaceable in weapons. All electronics are used in weapons.

Farming, fishing, and electricity inherently degrade our planet far more than AI. They should all be used sustainably, wisely, and with an eye to ecosystem health and future generations. You’ll get absolutely no argument from me there. Banning any of them or limiting their access to only the governments and corporations who are doing almost all the damage, is insanity.

When it comes to IP theft, that is a huge, non-ai problem. Again, corporations are responsible for almost all of the damage and we reap none of the benefits, even before AI was ever introduced. The problem is with how we allow corporations to copyright and restrict things for generations.

The solution is that AI, the technology that required all of humanity to contribute knowledge for it to exist, should be free for all to use. Why would IP theft be a reason to limit AI ownership to only corporations and governments? That’s completely backwards.

Why are you comparing a tool used for knowledge and action augmentation to weapons created for destruction? Because your statement would look dumb if you said “electric motors and encyclopedias” instead of “neurotoxins and bombs”.

I can use both electric motors and encyclopedias to inflict mass casualties against people who refuse to use them or the results of their labor, but that doesn’t make them like bombs and neurotoxins. You’re simply scared of a new technology because it’s so different.

Nvidia drivers and gaming compatibility have grown leaps in the last year. I’m using dual monitors on a 2070m in a laptop, one of the historically most incompatible setups. I am running cachyos. I was able to simply install the OS and start playing my entire steam library, all without any modification. I play plenty of modern games. I don’t have any AAA FPS with anticheat though, which I hear don’t work at all.

People have been paying companies to walk around advertising for them for 4 decades now. 80% of the population walks around with a pesant’s undershirt, that has the logo of a multinational corporation on it. Or one of some other, smaller business entity. They will have paid 3-6 hours of minimum wage work for this privilege.

Not physically destroy, you’re right, but they are buying to shelve until obsolescence. Which is as good as destroyed.

They are also starved for compute. Because they cannot get data centers physically built-out fast enough.

It’s not sexist to think it looks like a car for people who want a cute, little compact car that lets everyone know they have scratch. That’s just what it looks like.

I didn’t use “missy” to denigrate. I used it as marker for lifestyle choices regardless of sex or gender. You certainly picked up on my dripping distaste, but it’s because I think the car looks silly, just like the SUV, and neither fit my lifestyle choices. When I think the big matcho SUV is dumb, am I being sexist?

If it makes you feel any better, I always loved the Miata, because it looks like she’s got skin under her nails, cute but not to be played with lightly, and that fits my aesthetic just fine.
