Living in Australia means piracy is essentially legal - individuals can only be taken to court for the cost of one physical copy of the pirated media, so companies don’t even bother as long as you aren’t distributing. The more things in this area get worse, the more justified I feel in filling up my 10TB HDD.
We have a shitload of Chinese cars on the roads here in Australia, and you see them pop up for sale only a few years after being bought brand new at extreme discounts for a reason; they’re cheaply built pieces of shit that aren’t reliable and lure buyers in with fancy aesthetics and tech. I drive a 2010 Japanese import Toyota Crown, and it’ll outlast any of these Chinese made cars.
China is trying to get a foothold in the west, and they’re using cheap vehicles as part of that strategy during a cost of living crisis. It’s a smart strategy, admittedly, because the downsides won’t be apparent to the average person for a long time. The US really should be helping reduce the price tag on domestically produced cars if they want to stem the flow of Chinese EV’s hitting the roads, but the government and automakers seem to be averse to that. People without money are going to pick what they can afford, for better or for worse…
It’ll be such a surprise when it turns out all 10 have been suicidal for years and/or extremely susceptible to infection.
Depends on the Ford. imo Ford Australia’s final two Falcon models were unkillable, and contained an engine everyone’s now wanting to get their hands on due to its bulletproof construction and potential for huge, cheap power.
Source; I’ve owned an FG Falcon from new which now has over 450,000km on it and never once had any issues (also thousands of taxi drivers over 15 years can’t be wrong.)
As someone who uses GrapheneOS but knows very little about the technical side of things, what implications does this have for the OS? I’ll actually just not use a smartphone anymore if I’m going to be forced back onto the privacy nightmare that is stock Android.

The sooner you realize that literally no politician gives a shit about their people, the sooner we can move on from this bullshit left vs. right shitshow and start directing our anger at those responsible for the state of the world (hint; it’s every politician with any amount of power and any large enough corporation. Yep. Pixel, GrapheneOS, be harsh and restrictive with permissions, and intuitive with the apps you install. Simplify your digital life - it’s much easier and less of a hindrance than you’d think.
I agree mostly with this take. There are aspects from that time I’d like to return to, but for the most part, this poll comes across as far too simplified. I do however, think that social media was a massive mistake and has played a major role in the increased division, hostility and hyperpolitical landscape the world now finds itself in, and I’m not sure how we come back from it. I do believe we are far too connected these days, but it isn’t a simple issue.
I personally believe the centralization of social media and the internet in general will be seen as one of the world’s biggest mistakes in the not too distant future, especially once its (already quite apparent) impact on the mental health of the younger generations becomes widely-accepted and acknowledged. I truly wish for an early-00’s internet landscape again, but I know this will never happen.
I’ll legitimately be moving to Linux today. This just broke the camel’s back for me.
