Good point. Personally, I haven’t actually encountered a charger that was vandalized to a point where it didn’t work though. And I’m not sure whether these are more or less prone to have technical issues compared to regular cable chargers.

Cool, but 10% still seems like a lot for the small convenience of not having to spend 10-20s connecting a cable. Doesn’t seem worth it to me.

Tons of things. Instantly talking to a person the next town over, let alone the other side of the world. Turning on a light source whenever we want. Freezing a moment in time by taking a photograph. Etc
The pedant in me also feels the need to point out that the 1600s weren’t medieval though.

At this point my phone from 2022 is way overpowered for every use case I have for it. So why upgrade? It was a bit different years ago, when new phones actually did exciting new things older phones couldn’t do. But now the technology has pretty much matured, and upgrades are incremental at best.

It was already a dead franchise. Worst case it’ll stay that way. But I’m not without hope, as not all Amazon adaptations are bad, e.g. The Expanse or The Boys.
On the other hand I don’t know how to feel about Emmerich being involved. I think he always disliked the direction the series took after his (very different and IMO inferior) movie.

Society expects men to be “tough” and not show too many emotions. So men are less likely to have someone they can emotionally lean on and with whom they can talk about their feelings, even if they have many friends. Obviously it doesn’t mean that women can’t feel lonely. You wouldn’t go into a discussion about femicides and be like “Don’t men get murdered too? Wtf?”, right?

Degrading in terms of physical capabilities? Mental capacity? Hearing? I think you’ll need to be a bit more specific here if you want any useful replies.

Potentially it could also be something behind the screen. That could even explain the spot moving if there’s some sort of loose component inside the TV that has moved around over time. Pure speculation though.

They could be pressure marks. Maybe you or someone else bumped the TV screen with some object?

“Bad” is relative, but it does reduce the long-term lifespan of your battery. Ideally you should charge to 80%, but if you actually need the 100%, I wouldn’t worry about it either.
I find myself becoming less and less interested in staying in the industry I’m currently working in for the rest of my life. Problem is, I don’t have any other qualifications. So I guess it could start working on acquiring new ones while I’m still young enough to do so, but I’d need both a clear idea on what other career I want to pursue and the motivation to leave my currently pretty comfortable position in life. I have neither.

There isn’t a single site I’d consider an alternative. These days I mostly order from specialized online shops for different product categories, so for example electronics from Alternate, video games from netgames etc. Price comparison sites are often a good place to find these shops. When available I buy directly from manufacturers as well, especially clothing. Occasionally I also order stuff from AliExpress.
I also found that I buy less things in general since ditching Amazon. I guess the additional hassle of buying through other shops makes it easier to realize I don’t actually need many of the things I might have otherwise purchased.

That strategy sounds way too advanced for Trump’s mind, so I really don’t think so.

So you think with Harris in power in 2025, there would also be unidentified policemen roaming the streets, disappearing non-white people into unmarked vans? There would still be military deployed to cities across the US due to a fictional crime wave? Universities would still be denied funding for refusing to discriminate based on race or gender? I don’t think so.

If you really can’t see any difference in the methods employed and the scale of repression between the recent (!) democrat and republican governments, I don’t know what to tell you. Bringing up events from 50+ years ago like the red scare seems quite irrelevant.

You’re probably right that fundamental change is needed. But you should still think about under which president those changes are easier to achieve. Hint: It’s probably not the one who’s perfectly willing to send the military after his political enemies. Also remember that if you don’t elect another president, everybody else still will. The system won’t improve by you not participating in it.

This guy, but you probably wouldn’t want to honor him.

Yes, quite a lot. I’ve never actually been to America though.
How would we handle cases of tyranny where the government controls all militia?
How are you handling the case of tyranny right now? Haven’t seen the guns make a ton of difference so far. I don’t see how they would either, as it would be going against the largest military in the world.
That does sound like an interesting scenario. I guess the big challenge here will be getting the actual self driving implemented and approved across manufacturers. Also, if we had that, couldn’t the car just as easily connect to a physical docking port of some sort? But I guess a wireless charging pad would be more friendly to various car shapes.
