List and Array terminology also bothers me … Why not just call it an array?

Technology@lemmy.world•‘The Worst Internet-Research Ethics Violation I Have Ever Seen’ | The most persuasive “people” on a popular subreddit turned out to be a front for a secret AI experiment.English
39·9 months agoNot remotely surprised.
I dabble in conversational AI for work, and am currently studying its capabilities for thankfully (imo at least) positive and beneficial interactions with a customer base.
I’ve been telling friends and family recently that for a fairly small amount of money and time investment, I am fairly certain a highly motivated individual could influence at a minimum a local election. Given that, I imagine it would be very easy for Nations or political parties to easily manipulate individuals on a much larger scale, that IMO nearly everything on the Internet should be suspect at this point, and Reddit is atop that list.

Technology@lemmy.world•How long will it be until we realize AI is detrimental to society?English
2·1 year agoIt’s saving me a hell of a lot of man hours on incredibly tedious tasks that would require looking up individual items in a wiki or the like and then directly populating the answers into a spreadsheet… Our team doesn’t have the budget to hire someone to do it, so it basically just wouldn’t get done without it.
Useful party trick for me!

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We might be living the final moments of not being terrified what the US President is going to do
5·1 year agoAdding to this, the wealth disparity is going to continue to increase with those who have equities dramatically increasing their personal capitol, while the middle class is going to fall further behind.
I’m convinced a major part of inflation that goes completely ignored is the staggering amount of wealth generated by equities. People have literally seen 1 million become 2 or 3 over the last few years. They have been spending money with complete disregard… Watching what people buy at Costco is insane!

Technology@lemmy.world•We have to stop ignoring AI’s hallucination problemEnglish
392·2 years agoThe simple solution is not to rely upon AI. It’s like a misinformed relative after a jar of moonshine, they might be right some of the time, or they might be totally full of shit.
I honestly don’t know why people are obsessed with relying on AI, is it that difficult to look up the answer from a reliable source?

Technology@beehaw.org•Windows users don't want copilot on their taskbar
30·2 years agoGiven the reality that Linux simply isn’t viable for some people (including myself), I highly recommend using this tool.
https://christitus.com/windows-tool/
Between this, and manually uninstalling a lot of bloat (or using a specific type of windows install) and a few other tweaks, windows becomes significantly more usable.
Disabling garbage in the task bar, removing Cortana and indexing services, etc etc, it can also add a fairly decent uplift in performance.
I’m sure there is still telemetry being collected but significantly less and less impact on my user experience and day to day performance.
Oh and make sure you turn off auto/feature updates!

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?
3·3 years agoI don’t really care… Reddit is constantly spamming me with follow bots from Only Fans, and I have never posted in a NSFW sub.
I’m also hopeful the way this is structured we will see a bit better moderation of servers/subs.
Ok thank you very much for the information! I really liked Fedora, and performance was excellent when plugged in, it was simply the mobile aspect. I need to install the latest version again at some point here.
Hmm, I think I was using the settings built into fedora, but also tried doing some manual edits. The issue was mostly related to standby battery life during suspend, and in general on battery efficiency compared to Windows. In fairness it’s a Ryzen 6850u which is newer and probably not as prolific. Everything else ran really well though!
I am on Mac OS El Monterey for audio production work, and Windows 10 for general productivity/gaming.
I love Fedora, but found battery life less than optimal, and many of the programs I need for employment simply do not have Linux versions.

Ahh thank you for that information! In all seriousness, I appreciate you correcting my ignorance.
