And when it’s not red, you have a serious issue going on. This is actually how a couple initially noticed something was wrong with their toddler’s eye. Turned out she had cancer. She’s a healthy adult now, with a glass eye, but I have never looked at red eyes in photographs in a negative way since then.

5·11 months agoThat’s completely fair. Not every mod for the steam deck is for everyone.

101·11 months agoFor me: I want to do a shell swap, upgrade the SSD, and change out the buttons and thumb sticks. I may as well upgrade the screen at the same time. I was initially looking at the deck HD screen, but that mod seems to be in a really bad place since they shut down their email servers, and customer support is non-existent even on their discord server. Then I saw this and decided that it was worth the $40 more than it would be to buy just a replacement screen from iFixit. I have pressure damage on my LCD screen and I want to keep this particular piece of machinery as long as possible.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Decksight, an OLED screen replacement for LCD decks, is now in crowdfunding
2·1 year agoI went ahead and backed it. I am slowly amassing everything I need for a complete shell swap (and other bits and bobs to mod my deck - last things needed are a bigger SSD and a SSD enclosure to clone the drive/use the original as external storage). If this gets funded, I’ll just wait until I get it in May and just not have to worry about detaching the stock screen and reattaching it to the new shell. If this doesn’t get funded I’ll just order a replacement screen from ifixit.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[HELP] Recommendations for portable setup with keyboard and mouse?
2·1 year agoI use the Logitech Pop keyboard and their MX Ergo trackball mouse. Found a case for my keyboard, and it’s slightly wider than the deck.
They were considered to be a weapon.
When I was 14-15 I wanted a wallet chain, but they were banned at my school. I made one of of safety pins that looped down past my knees. Somehow my linked safety pins were ok…

7·1 year agoDoes anyone know of a similar alternative? Junk Store only covers Epic unless you donate. I know I could use Lutris and/or Heroic and manually add the non steam games that way. I do like the ability to see them in the non steam tab on my deck in gaming mode.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's your most profound "small world" moment?
10·1 year agoNot mine, but my dad’s that I was there to witness.
It was summer (90s) and we were all camping at a lake. My sister and I were playing with some kids while my dad was chatting up the other kids’ dad. Just as I was getting out of the water I hear the other dad exclaim “you remind me of a guy I used to know called [name]!” My dad laughs and says “I am [name].” Turns out they used to go to school together decades before.
It’s stuck with me all these years, and has somewhat been turned into an inside joke within our family.

I just bought myself a pair of parachute pants! They’re not nearly as loud as the wind breaker suits of the 90s and early 00s, but I love them.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•When did you get your first phone? First computer? What was it?
1·2 years agoI remember us having an Atari computer along with some Compac computer running DOS in the late 80s. The computers I grew up with were models that we got for free from my dad’s workplace whenever they upgraded. We ran Win 3.1 until about '98. Win 95 was prevalent in the house until the mid '00s. Due to my dad’s job, we always had a computer of some sort in the house.
The computers in my elementary school’s computer lab were Apple 2es - in the 90s.
I didn’t get a cellphone until around 2004/2005, and then it was a hand-me-down from my older sister. The Nokia 5110 - the brick, complete with extendable antenna.
Blinkies - those small gifs that blinked to give the impression of glitter.
iframes - precursor to divs, but definitely added that “only works in IE” feel.
More contrast between font color and background image - it’s too easy to read.
12pt Times New Roman font - gotta squint to read and default font for everything
Flashy gif banner at your header and footer - bonus points if they’re the same image
All urls default to underlined blue and purple.
Mouse cursor with trails. The more sparkles, the better.
Clip art. Clip art everywhere.

The key is to send it too then when they’re not at home.
