Yet people claim it writes all their programming code…

The load distributes across more shoulders automatically.
If you only host a server for yourself and 10 friends it costs next to nothing, if you have a big operation it can get just as expensive, it depends on what you are willing to do.
With centralized systems there is no choice but for the one centralized host to host everything.

181·2 years agoThat is exactly what it doesn’t. There is no “understanding” and that is exactly the problem. It generates some output that is similar to what it has already seen from the dataset it’s been fed with that might correlate to your input.
It’s basically the same thing that happened to Homer Simpson. The original did dumb things but never intended for things to fail or to be evil. Of course it is easier to write cheap gags if you throw all of that out of the window.

Technology@beehaw.org•AI crap - Why ML will make the world worse, not better
1·2 years agoThing is nobody will do that because once AI finds a way to spazz out that is totally unpredictable (black box) everything might just be gone.
It’s a totally unrealistic scenario.

1·2 years agoI mean that is exactly what programming is except you type to an AI and have it type the script. What is that good for?
Could have just typed the script in the first place.
It ChatGPT can use the API it can’t be too complex otherwise you are in for a surprise once you find out what ChatGPT didn’t care about (caching, usage limits, pricing, usage contracts)

4·2 years agoUnfortunately everything AI does is kind of shitty. Sure you might have a query for which the chosen AI works well but you might as well not.
It you accept that it sometimes just doesn’t work at all sure AI is your revolution. Unfortunately there are not too many use cases where this is helpful.
I see you are correct.
I mean I can compress any story you like into 3 sentences making it sound completely silly. Is there a point to make?
Nothing has changed about why that is compelling: NAT sucks and creates nothing but problems.
Network security is almost the same with IPv6.
If you rely on NAT as a security measure you are just very bad at networking.

It was fun to dominate Hutball for like 2 weeks and… that was basically it…

4·3 years agoI had such hopes for SE but seeing the developers drift into some dimension where the game works and it’s time to sell dlc… Oh well. Hope their awesome AI startup that will definitely fly SE spaceships when it’s done is coming along.

A big chance is in front of us to break the cycle!

1·3 years agoI’ve been using Mastodon for some time now so the Fediverse won’t lose me, the question is if my redditing can be migrated.

That’s not even true, I run my own mailserver for private and a business and it works like expected.
