In the context of prices of cars it is indeed a rather small amount.
k is just a prefix, it is unit-independent
Because humans are creatures of habit, and as long as stuff works for them, even suboptimally, a lot of people aren’t inclined to change their habits, even if it might mean a change would improve their lives. As long as sth is “good enough”, there simply isn’t an incentive for change.
Also, since there isn’t a huge corporation behind Linux, there is literally no direct advertisement for it, so people who aren’t into tech simply never will get in touch with it.

4·9 days agoLol what? I just checked, on eBay I can find a lot of offers between 800 Euros and 1300 Euros for a used RTX 3090. 4-5k would get you a brand new RTX 5090.

It’s important to be critical, but mindlessly blaming everone and everything to be billionare-controlled is just as dumb as being naive and believing everything u see on the Internet.
The sales of consumer GPUs make up a veeeery tiny percentage of nvidias revenue. Nvidia could stop selling consumer GPUs tomorrow and it wouldn’t even make a noticeable dent in their revenues. And what other options do u really have? Any other company ain’t much better.

Same with lootboxes in gaming, everyone hates them but there are enough people purchasing them so that the companies can keep pulling shit like this off.

1·17 days agoI guess because of server costs and stuff like that. I am sure Lemmy currently can’t handle the amount users Reddit has. And without ads there is no income stream of money to handle the costs.
