Is empath some sort of dogwhistle? The only time I’ve seen the phrase “I’m an empath” was in between conservative misinformation on Facebook.

It’s an art installation. I don’t remember the exact details, but it’s something like it’s constantly leaking red lubricant and is programmed to try to scoop it up to survive a little longer.

9·24 days agoI think that was separate, actually. Google also had an outage caused by them upgrading and not testing enough to notice that some config or command line parameter had been renamed, and they were hounding the bugtracker as if they had a 30 second SLA. Somehow them having an outage and not having the presence of mind to roll back the upgrade was supposed to be an emergency for an unpaid volunteer.
You should be able to set up letterboxing using either xrandr or your window manager, although I got pretty unsatisfactory results when I searched for “xrandr letterboxing”.
What are you using to draw on the screen? That would determine how best to achieve this. I’d expect it to be doable regardless, but the path there would be different.

9·2 months agoAds don’t need to make you explicitly go out to buy the product to be effective. All they need to do is make you feel more familiar with the brand next time they and a competitor are next to each other in the store, and you need to decide which one to pick.
TL;DR: For stuff you’ll need to buy anyway, brand awareness is all the ad needs to do.

Have you read the American version of those comics? It is the only media I prefer in translated form, because the American lettering is extremely annoying. The grammar is weird, like spelling it “Unca Donald” instead of “uncle”, and every sentence has one or two words in bold. All the bold words feel like an aggressive way of showing emphasis which is so exaggerated that I find it exhausting to read.
As a contrast, Norwegian Donald Duck comics were advertised from day 1 as “translated by a teacher”, and there has always been an emphasis on good grammar. And most importantly, no bold words all over the place! We can figure out where to put the emphasis ourselves, thank you very much.

The first thing a novice user learns is to slap
sudoin the front if they don’t have access to do something.
Is this something that happens on Ubuntu or something? My Debian system hasn’t pulled in any snap stuff to my knowledge.
I think it’s just made by someone who loves RPM. Couldn’t quite make themselves place Debian in the enlightened group.

1·3 months agoIf side loading is actually allowed on iOS it’s exclusively because the past few years of lawsuits forced them to, and they keep trying to block it in new ways. Android can only be equally bad as Apple at worst, because Apple is as bad as they are legally allowed to in a given jurisdiction. So picking iOS over Android over that specific issue seems odd. They get brownie points for having blocked it from the start?

You realize that the spam is not coming from the actual line owning the number, right? They can spoof the number, so they could make it look like it came from any number. If they put some effort into researching you, they could make the spam look like it came from your mom.
