We’ll soon be back to monks transcribing at this rate.

Oh no, it just became unextinct again

A bit off topic, but these are great when frozen.
Around 2021, I regularly ran into this problem with the Firefox snap. It had various runtime issues, so I preferred the traditional deb package. I’d uninstall the snap then install the deb. Then, some days later, I’d find the snap was somehow installed again. This happened a few times before I realized that the deb was just installing the snap. Imo, that’s not a good design. Debs should be debs and snaps should be snaps.
Anyhow, I use Arch now, btw. Much more consistent experience.

Cowards will be cowards I say, but us simpletons don’t understand the high stakes and day to day pressures of a modern multinational corporate conglomerate. They have profit margins, investor boards, and mergers to consider. Heavens! What good is free speech if they don’t make more money this quarter than they made last quarter? Please, good people of the Fediverse, won’t somebody think of the shareholders?

In addition to cancelling, which is the MOST important thing:
What about uninstalling their apps?
App providers can see the number of installations on the different platforms (Apple, Roku, Android, etc). That count falling will further raise their disquiet. Leaving an app installed or continuing to use the service before the cancellation is processed could send an unintentional message that maybe this is all just temporary and we’ll come back in a couple of weeks after the news cycle plays out.

Just one more day and it would have been gone forever.

In 2003, it was my dream to play FF7 in Linux. In 2019, my dream came true. Thanks Proton, Codeweavers, Wine, Valve, et al for helping me finally put down Sephiroth right.

One benefit of colocating the food bank with the grocery store is that shoppers could make direct contributions to the food bank. Instead of those questionable ‘donate $1 to such and such’ prompts at payment, one could purchase an extra can of food and discreetly drop it off after checkout. Seeing the beneficiaries in person is confidence the grocery store isn’t just making a money grab.
Since most of us have to buy groceries, it would also provide shoppers a convenient opportunity to practice compassion. Sometimes a bad day can be turned around by doing something good.

I like the ‘ground up’ approach they mention that doesn’t rely on insecure ‘adversaries’. I’ll check it out soon.

It’s true (and it feels a bit dusty), but it’s still meeting my needs. I hope it’ll get picked up again or perhaps another project will replace it.

I installed a custom launcher that’s close to the stock one on my Pixel 3 specifically to make it possible to remove the Google Search widget. Now I have a Firefox widget that points to DDG.
If any are interested, the launcher is Lawn Chair, and it can be installed via F-droid.

This is not a real term, but maybe Freudian Hint?

Something about trees. They’re always a comfort to look at. Willows more so, thanks!

I’ve avoided Microsoft for years, but recently I’ve been reducing my Google use. I’m still on Gmail, and Street View is special, but I’ve been slowly replacing Google utilization:
Upcoming projects include replacing my phone’s Google-built Android image and transitioning to ProtonMail.
It’s not one big project, it’s lots of projects. It’s worthwhile, though. Along the way, I’ve reconnected with my love of good tech and I’ve gained new hobbies like privacy and contributing to OSM.

OP, here’s another one! This one’s also pointing out incorrect facts about Arkansas!
