Technology@lemmy.world•Whether you use AI, think it's a "fun stupid thing for memes", or even ignore it, you should know it's already polluting worse than global air travel.English
101·3 months agoWater has to be cleaned. It is renewable, not free. My city has many sources, but most places where they build datacenters do not. It is a real problem
Either way the biggest proble, IMO, is the pressure on the electric grid. If the asshats building the centers would cooperate with others, there would be much less problems.
As for power usage, yea its a lot but still not an insane amount. The image and video generation uses a LOT more then text.
Inits are simple. If you know gnu make, it’s about as complicated as you can make an init.
SystemD is not just an init. That’s the problem.

103·4 months agoAh yes. Safety knives. Safety buildings. Safety sleeping pills. Safety rope.
LLMs are stupid. A toy. A tool at best, but really a rubber ducky. And it definitely told him “don’t”.
Ah yes. Hair, and bdw raping children. Can’t have a day without genocide and paedophilia.

Technology@lemmy.world•ChatGPT 5 power consumption could be as much as eight times higher than GPT 4 — research institute estimates medium-sized GPT-5 response can consume up to 40 watt-hours of electricityEnglish
3·4 months agoHmmm. Sure. But I find people don’t understand how much one kWh really is. A 500W drill can twist your arm. Imagine yourself twisting someones arm with all you got for a whole hour. Or idk. Either way it’s a lot of energy.
And then you think about how much more energy a car uses then a human does. And then you find out about hot water…
You know Linus acts like an ass, but Balmer is an ass, and Jobs was a horrible person?
And google is amoral in general.
I’d rather side with the rude for a reason crowd, then the polite to take advantage of you crowd.
That said I use linux for a long time now, and only recently would I recommend it to others. And even that not always.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are you a feminist? (If so why, if not why not?)
1·4 months agoI deleted it…
Because I said I hate the man-hating “feminism” that was popular a few years ago, and that I am a good person. Ofc you can’t be feminist if you dislike sexist women.
That was only like 1/3 or 1/4 of what I said and you can find it if you search for the deleted reply here, as only that part is deleted.
Edit: I restored it, you can go read and downvote now. Didn’t know you can restore.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Are you a feminist? (If so why, if not why not?)
45·4 months agoI wrote here my honest opinion only to be mocked. Fuck you all, I’m not going to answer this online ever again.
And no, I wasn’t sexist.

15·4 months ago“Man up” isn’t always about bottling your feeling like the US internet says. More often it’s “stop complaining and just do it”. And someone has to do “it”. And it often leads to growth.
The internet often distorts things.
As for the topic, I am a feminist. The first and second wave feminism, that is. The equality ones. Not the pink haired screaming “all men are evil and should pay” third wave. Everybody screaming “patriarchy” while sitting on their bed, not even looking further then that. Looking at everything black and white.
Actually, I’m kinder to women then men…

We are literally on memes, and look at the post.
