Technology@lemmy.world•Framework’s first desktop is a strange—but unique—mini ITX gaming PCEnglish
3·10 months agoand if you actually want a PC for gaming on, a discrete gpu (eg: 7900xt) is going to be at least 3x faster at throwing polygons around than the 8060S. This thing is definitely better for AI workloads than gaming.

Enshittification once they have enough users, that’s usually how these things go. I swear we don’t learn.

[Dormant] Electric Vehicles (Moved to !electricvehicles@slrpnk.net)@lemmy.world•Elon Musk delusionally believes Trump support is not affecting Tesla, claims sales are at 'all-time highs'
9·1 year agoWe’re dealing with decades of ingrained muscle memory that says when you’re about to hit something/lose control/etc… you slam on the brakes. I know in some vehicles they say “in case of emergency, turn off one-pedal mode”. But seriously, in a split second emergency you’re going to remember to do that?
What are you talking about? The brake pedal is still there in EV’s and it still does the same job. I’ve driven an EV for 3 years using OPD and not once have I ever forgotten that the brake exists.

Fewer. Sorry, pet peeve of mine. If you can count the thing, it’s fewer, not less.

Linux@lemmy.ml•How dare you use a text editor because it's easy to use
51·1 year agoVIM may have been a very useful tool 20 or 30 years ago, but today it’s nothing else but a tool for one’s sense of superiority. It’s the vinyl of editors.
So, because you don’t understand something, it’s outdated?
If you have to type that much code in a terminal, your infrastructure is outdated. Simple as that.
Ok, I can see you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Technology@lemmy.world•Linux May Be the Best Way to Avoid the AI NightmareEnglish
2·2 years agoIt’s possible they did. I think Dell briefly discussed it as an option, before using it as leverage to get cheaper Windows licenses from Microsoft. The EEE PC also shipped with its own Linux distro and appropriate hardware drivers.
This was why I said “nearly impossible” :)

Technology@lemmy.world•Linux May Be the Best Way to Avoid the AI NightmareEnglish
242·2 years agoLinux is close, but has some core flaws that will forever keep it out of mainstream acceptance by your average user.
It has nothing to do with any flaws within Linux itself. The problem is and has always been that it’s nearly impossible to buy a PC with any flavour of Linux pre-installed. Until that changes, Linux (on home user desktops) will never gain mainstream acceptance.

Technology@lemmy.world•Report: Microsoft to face antitrust case over TeamsEnglish
6·2 years agoMaybe it’s anticompetitive conduct by the provider (like Microsoft using its market power on Outlook/Exchange to push other services like Teams over its competition)
That’s exactly what it is. They leveraged their dominance/monopoly in one market to gain a stranglehold on another market. It’s not exactly a new tactic for Microsoft either.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the last video game that you were completely hooked on?
1·2 years agoNo, they’re nearly all standalone. Tales of Arise is great too.

I built a business with my code, and it helps save/improve hundreds of thousands of lives around the world. I don’t want to doxx myself so won’t give any further info.
Just because it’s intangible, your code can still potentially have a huge amount of value.
