Personally I’d blame parents more than the schools, especially in America. Parent involvement is nearing all-time lows and it seems a lot of them are expecting all learning to be done outside the home. I learned more about computers from my dad than any class or teacher.

Games@lemmy.world•Sony. What are you even doing right now? PS5 Pro AnnouncementEnglish
0·1 year agoI regret buying a PS5 at all. I haven’t been a PSN subscriber for over three years at this point and I don’t feel inclined to be in the future. All the games my friends and I play are on PC and really the only game worth a damn is Astrobot, which is far and away the most fun platformer game I’ve played and is the sole game to justify that console purchase lol.
I echo the other comments here saying this generation is a waste, it really is and there is nothing really to be gained by getting the latest and “greatest” console today. Maybe it’s just a sign of the times that consoles just don’t have that much pull like they used to, unless they’re portable like the Steam Deck or Switch.

Technology@lemmy.ml•YouTube will ask iOS users to 'Allow’ tracking for more personalized ads
21·1 year agoI hate how YouTube seems to intentionally show salacious ads if you opt out of ad personalization. I get a ton of Temu spam despite not purchasing anything from that app or even having it on my phone, and the ads themselves usually feature scantily-clad women that takes up 70% of the screen. I’ve made a habit of just opening up the comments section and keeping them open the entire duration of the video. It really feels like YouTube/Google/Alphabet is saying “oh, you don’t want people around you to think you’re a perv? Let us collect more data about you so you can save face in public when you use our app at the gym or at work.”

Linux@lemmy.ml•What could your distro learn from another distro?
4·2 years agoYou probably shouldn’t be accessing a linux distro’s website from mobile
I don’t think it’s good to hand-wave a website’s poor user experience and instead blame the user’s device. The fact of the matter is that Debian’s website is not as responsive as it could (imo, should) be and results in a bad user experience. With mobile traffic being responsible for over 55% of the internet’s traffic, it can be generally assumed a user’s first experience learning about a distro will be on a mobile device. If that first impression is bad, that can spell bad news for that distro’s adoption/onboarding.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which games that were reviewed poorly did you actually like?
15·2 years agoI’ve enjoyed No Man’s Sky since day 1. I didn’t really follow the game or any of the major hype behind it, I just saw a cool space game on ps4 and played the hell out of it. Fell in love with the music, the setting, and just walking around weird landscapes, flying to different atlas stations, and just enjoying being alone.
I still play it, and am so happy HG continues to give the game constant love and attention, but there are days I turn networking off on my ps4 and play the 1.0 version again, just to go back to that part of my life for a little bit.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Has Reddit’s traffic really quadrupled in 6 months?
36·2 years agoTaking a cursory look I feel like posts still aren’t being engaged with like they used to. I remember seeing posts with 100,000 upvotes very regularly on the front page, but you really don’t see that anymore. Yeah maybe they tweaked their calculations but why make your site look like it’s not as engaging as before right before a major IPO offer?

Linux@lemmy.ml•Former distrohoppers, where did you settle down?
13·2 years agoLinux Mint: Debian Edition. Love mint’s cinnamon DE, and the plus of being away from Canonical’s shenanigans is great. It’s been stable and my daily driver for months now.
I must be living under a rock because this is the first I’ve heard of USB 4. Is it just a speed bump or does it affect the type of data that can be transferred? In my experience I’ve had issues using a usb 2.0 flash drive to use a live image of a Linux iso in a 3.1 port
Or vertical icon-only tabs!

61·2 years agoAnd? This is like looking up hammers that don’t leave fingerprints on the grip so you can get away with murder. The tool itself isn’t the issue, the motive is, as well as the person responsible for using it.

Ah, bummer, but I’m glad a project like this exists and is getting some new life breathed into it. Can’t say I’m a huge fan of the toolbar at the top but I’m sure ricing will be fun on a platform like this.
