Linux@lemmy.ml•[Q] Is it possible to reinstall Linux without losing Dropbox?
2·1 month ago- Having a separate partition for /home might be sufficient since dropbox keeps the login details in ~/.config
- Use a tool like rclone and run sync manually. Can backup the API key post the in-browser login. If you spend extra effort, you can create a systemd file to automate this as well

Linux@lemmy.ml•[Q] Is it possible to reinstall Linux without losing Dropbox?
4·1 month agoDo you mean
- To persist the programs installed across multiple OS installs, or
- To persist the Dropbox login/folders across multiple OS installs?
For some people, using windows in a VM might also be a good fallback, specially for older and/or lightweight software.
Anything to do with hw, non-steam gaming or heavy applications might be a hit or miss

3·2 months agoMIDI protocol for users might be good enough but for developers is a nightmare if you want to do advanced synthesis

The entire process is the same:
- Take wire, cut it
- Smash one end flat
- ?? (Bend the wire and fold the smashed end)
- Profit
Had to reinstall Windows XP one time too many
PSA: Don’t open windows on busy roads. Let’s in a bunch of pollutants like rubber and metal particles from tires
If it’s a place you’d voluntarily have a picnic nearby, feel free to open windows

2·4 months agoNo need to discuss defecit. That’s a totally unrelated item. My statement was purely about their infra and manufacturing lead in multiple sectors.
Imagine you are a top student and some other student suddenly gets better marks than you in multiple subjects. You do need to introspect and see where you can improve (Or if you even care about those subjects).
If you don’t care about infra and manufacturing, no need to sweat

11·4 months agoPercentage dont make sense when the OP posted a out solar leadership. Raw numbers is where it’s at.
The OP did not show where AI and solar intersect, because in power supply they do not. AI power infra is mostly reliant on hydro and coal

22·4 months agoChinese infrastructure and manufacturing lead is real. You don’t need to believe any propaganda, just travel and observe.
The asterisks are not about their usecase but political.

For dense cities, it’s called a metro. A stop within 10-15 minutes by walk, 5 mins by bicycle and lots of share bike and bike parking.
If it’s a revenue generating machine, the impact of 10 or 20% improvement in day to day could recoup the additional cost in a few months or a year.
Similarly, for someone who travels a lot, having a useful battery life of 8-10 hours of internet+video playback allows a work routine that is worry free wrt charging and this allows tighter travel schedules.
Ofc, this isn’t the case every time, but this creates anchor effect on several segments of the market. This also doesn’t include the extra cost of “luxury” aka thin and light or small bezels.
350 USD is perfectly fine if you don’t need a ton of battery life or color accurate screen or multimedia or multicore workloads. If you need any of this, most of the options get pricier than 700 USD. It’s not uncommon to have to shell out 1500 USD or more for the desired specs.
