Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•It takes more effort to tell two language apart when you understand both of themEnglish
1·11 months agoUsually it’s easy, but when I role played that I don’t know one language and I know the other. It was super hard.
I was making a game for kids where they need to use some english (second language) to progress the game, and I slipped and reacted to the native language.

Technology@lemmy.world•Peer-to-peer serverless decentralized social media protocol built on The IPFSEnglish
20·1 year agoI have just timed and 60 seconds wait time is atrocious for 8 text posts.
IPFS is nice but it doesn’t make sense for things that are under few of mb
Don’t forget to bring fruit!

memes@lemmy.world•It seems like a difficult language to learnEnglish
1·1 year agoFilms with subtitles
That’s copeium. Most people are too lazy to match meanining with words when wathing films. Ask any weeb if they know japanese from watching anime for years. (I don’t)
I satrted to pick up language from flashcards, childrens books and textbooks. Not from translated films. (english or japanese or russian)
It took 2 years but he prerecorded a bunch of videos and kept posting.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What books do you consider must reads?English
8·1 year agoDiscword series is really good. - very witty comedy with subtle commentary about real world
I wouldn’t say it’s must read but I can’t reccomend it highly enough: “Ascendance of a Bookworm” - an slow adventure about a girl struggling with an unknown disease in another world, and all she wants is to read books.
you can also hang out in !chat@literature.cafe and tell about your experience.

Technology@lemmy.world•Intel is trucking a 916,000-pound 'Super Load' across Ohio to its new fab, spawning road closures over nine daysEnglish
3·2 years agoSmallest features are around 13nm due to EUV wavelength. I think people incorporated hacks to etch smaller stuff but not much smaller.
I think it is similar stuff as with Moore’s “law” that is not an actuall law only a trend or myth.
In the 70’ 80’ 90’ that number represented an actuall size and it stuck into 00’ 10’ and 20’

14·2 years agoYes, but that is long past an actuall transistor size and just a marketing term.
As I recently watched “perfect days” right now my favourite is feeling good by Nina Simone

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How to deal with problematic construction workers?English
51·2 years agoIt sounds like you live in a place without “working” local government.
Make friends with the workers. Employ social engineering tactics. Don’t be angry at them.
Do it for at least couple of weeks. You will need to keep the relationship for the whole duration of the construction.
Ask hows the work going. Ask hows the weather. Maybe something about mainstream sports event (soccer?)
Bring them water/beer/food.
Barter with them to clean the entrance and you will bring them something better in couple of hours or tommorow (e.g cold beer)
Plan ahead how much reasorces can you invest into the whole endeavour. Will it be profitable? Maybe moving to different location will be less resource intensive.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's your favorite song on Radiohead's 2007 masterpiece 'In Rainbows'?English
6·2 years agoAfter listening to the album it was underwhelming. It was good and sometimes great. I can’t call it a “masterpiece”
My favourite was “15 step”. It had nice and interesting percussion.
All I need in 1:40 was a highlight and ending of Videotape had also nice rhythm.
I definitely listened to better albums.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is something that 2020s kids will never get to experience?English
6·2 years agoI would say that not only the children’s lives are documented on the internet (that was the case in 2010’) but also their parents.
e.g. pewdiepie had a child recently and basically his whole life is documented in a video form. All his highs and lows.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmy, what's your internet speed in mbps?English
32·2 years ago34230000000mbps (mili bits per second)(I love SI units) down and 17080000000mbps up
The reliability is horrendous. Pings vary from 200 to few thousand. Sometimes speeds drop below 1Mbps. Double CGNAT. I think my internet is provided by someone in their garage with 15y old equipement over the air.

Unironically it will work as @Thorry84@feddit.nl and a bunch just like him has put in the work to Just WorkTM
