11·3 days agoagain, you didnt counter, you just said “nuh-uh”
I dont mind not getting the last word but that seems important to you and I’m petty so guess how this is going to go?

21·3 days agoCute. You assert you are right by ignoring my point completely. I gave an example where a switch that does nothing could be used to convince you it did something. You basically said “nuh-uh”.

31·5 days agoLet’s say I install a button on your car that flips from “broken” to “fixed” my itself. Anytime you complain something is wrong, I flip that switch to “fixed.” That doesn’t change anything. The switch just tells other things to do something. It doesn’t enforce anything. It’s basically telling Google whether you want it or not, not actually obeying you.

3·5 days agoMobile provides can remove it from their end if they feel the device will “harm or degrade performance of their network”. Some American cell phone providers are doing this with Linux phones already.

5·5 days agoYou aren’t going to get such a device enabled on the american cellular networks. The duoploy wont allow it. You would have a better chance creating a new network that doesnt need cellular technology. something that behaves more like a cordless phone that uses whatever wifi, packet radio, reticulum node, etc as the base. You wouldn’t be able to get a straight phone number without a VoIP subscription but thats also not a terribly big problem as phone numbers are a terrible idea in 2025 anyway. We should have revocable keys exchanged at will that are unique to each contact. Either side can block communications effectively that way at any time and you couldnt just call them from a different number or sell the key to a different scammer or something.
Really, a 5G capable phone running linux isnt a big enough goal. Mobile communications needs a profound shift away from the legacy model.

121·5 days agoApple never opened that door. Google did, but they never intended to keep it open. it was there to catch up with apple. they never intended to do any good here. it was there to speed up development and win people over, then after they are already there, google can close the door and screw them all. That’s what’s happening now. It was a bait and switch.

Linux@lemmy.ml•How does discovery work in fedora server?English
3·5 days agoThe router does not handle mdns discovery. That’s a Linux service. The router can answer questions from other clients but if has to be given the answer by the host in the first place. That’s what systemd-resolved and avahi do.

112·5 days agoYou actually turned off geminis ability to serve YOU. You never turned off Gemini itself. Google won’t allow that. It’s still running in the background send your data to Google and its advertising partners. Google has publicly stated this is the intended design and they will not allow turning that off.

4·5 days agoWha Google is enforcing for a lot of these things, including Gemini, is that you are only allowed to disable direct interaction from the user with the service. So in the case of Gemini, it’s still running in the background and sending out your data to Google and its advertising partners. You just turned off your ability to interact with it yourself.

Technology@lemmy.world•DRAM prices are spiking, but I don't trust the industry's reasons whyEnglish
12·5 days agoJust built a rig to give me enough raw power I move however I need yo when this all blows up. Went with a Ryzen 5000 series cpu and ddr4 ram and a godawful motherboard with an Intel B580 cpu. It’s cheap but I now have more options.
Too bad I couldn’t get the opnsense VM working properly so I’m stuck with keeping the firewalla running. But that may not matter as the Nazis want to kill the internet anyway. We may be forced to rely on wonky mixnets like reticulum.
