Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it ok to create a personal community?English
3·3 years agoAs long as you make it clear in the sidebar, I think it’s perfectly fine IMHO
It’s not even that selfish because surprisingly you might even find a few people who like your content and subscribe! Lol

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmy Instance on Small Private Server?
1·3 years agoMaybe I’m wrong, but you would be fetching the content from all the other instances. The other instances would only need to fetch your content if someone searches for the communities you created. So, if you mostly post and comment on existing communities, the other instances wouldn’t have to do any extra work.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How many users here do you think are going to get bored and end up back on Reddit as soon as the blackout ends?
1·3 years agoIt’s like r/The_Donald but on the opposite end of the political spectrum

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is Lemmy really ran by neo-nazis?English
3·3 years agoThis is what the devs are saying: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/2977#issuecomment-1584337286
I don’t want to argue, so I’ll end it here.
You can fight for a better implementation, sure. Of course I would not be against that! I just personally fail to see the real issue with the way things are now on a public platform.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is Lemmy really ran by neo-nazis?English
10·3 years agoWhat about The Internet Archive? Search engines cache? Copies made by other people? etc.
This is a public platform; don’t share things you don’t want to be shared. You can’t truly expect anything being deleted forever everywhere.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How many users here do you think are going to get bored and end up back on Reddit as soon as the blackout ends?

Much less toxic
(I’m not talking about lemmygrad)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is Lemmy really ran by neo-nazis?English
10·3 years agoI don’t understand this question. This is a public platform, there are no secret messages or info. What do you mean by privacy? Hide what from whom?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is Lemmy really ran by neo-nazis?English
81·3 years agoSee one of the two devs’ essays here for his political views: https://github.com/dessalines/essays
Having said that, you’re free to join a different instance (like the one I’m commenting from), if you have issues with that. I haven’t personally noticed anything actually problematic though.
Edit: quick answer -> definitely not neo-nazis, and probably not relevant either

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How many users here do you think are going to get bored and end up back on Reddit as soon as the blackout ends?
14·3 years agoImpossible to say now, but definitely quite a lot of them are not going to be regular users. I still hope/believe the majority will stay though.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•is it possible to open a link in a new tab by default ?English
5·3 years agoI don’t think so.
Workarounds for desktop usage:
- extensions to force opening all links in a new tab (example)
- just remember to use middle click instead of right click (or equivalent key for your device)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmy Instance on Small Private Server?
5·3 years agoIf you want to use it just for yourself (thus removing the load of your own usage from the other public instances), sure.
If you intend to open it up for many users, you need to consider whether you’re capable of managing that kind of load. Lemmy is relatively lightweight though.
On my post here, you can find some informations about other people running an instance in the comments.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the worst pick up line you've ever heard?
5·3 years agoDid it work though?
Blindly recommending the AUR is dangerous though, as you really should check what you’re installing/updating every time.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What kinds of things from reddit would you like to see Lemmy avoid as the user base grows?English
10·3 years agoIt could be in cool (in the future) to have a donate button instead, so to support users who are posting great content
On the other hand, donating to lemmy should be separate (the way it is now) and not a cut of those donations to users

I might actually end up disabling swap in the end. I wanted to update that apparently I “fixed” the problem (not sure if permanently) by turning off the pc, unplugging the PSU, and holding down the power button for 30 seconds. Normal reboots weren’t enough. I’ll take it for now.
