I’m surprised, because other fediverse platforms already support adding Alt Text and Lemmy doesn’t seem to. (At least not in the UI?)

with embeds, e.g ![](example.com) you can put Alt-Text directly into the [] like: ![alt](example.com) and it should be recognized

XMPP can indeed be used for some other things

For example, Google uses it to this day for Google Cloud Messaging - the push notifications service in Android.

Obsidian isn’t FOSS at all, sadly.

Though, they’re not the data-hungry kind of proprietary, or use some proprietary format. It’s basically just a really fancy markdown editor with plugin support. No telemetry, no accounts, and sync can be self-hosted.

I will gladly continue to use Piped and not have to worry about watch history
