After a while it’s basically muscle memory so you don’t have to go digging as much. OpenBSD’s are my favorite. So well-written.

Soap is caustic no matter how much goat milk and whatever bullshit they put in it here, and I have very sensitive skin. Go ahead and leave some on your body for a few hours without rinsing and report back when you see for yourself.
I’ve come to understand that most of my habits aren’t normal. But, why not get it over with in the nice, warm atmosphere after toweling off?
Convo with my wife:
“There’s something wrong with the lotion in the shower. It’s burning my skin like Nair or something.”
“??? What lotion?”
“The big bottle that says goat milk on it or whatever.”
“Honey, that is body wash.”

memes@lemmy.world•Probably the shittiest part of my job :(English
3·7 months agoI had a guy busy moving his family across the US when they cancelled remote work. Management decided to do layoffs while they were en route. He was on the list. At the time, I was actively interviewing to GTFO of that place and when we were chatting about work stuff I brought up that a position I saw at one would be perfect for his skill-set. He seemed worried and confused by my insistence that he apply. Anyway, as expected he showed up and they canned him before I could even walk in the door. But he got the other job and ended up loving it.

8·7 months agoGentoo is fantastic for learning. It forced me to get intimate with internals I had no exposure to before. And I learned a lot of little tricks from it that accelerated my career. Or at least made it easier.
I’d try to find something a bit more beefy if you plan on compiling almost everything. And once you get it where you like it, take a backup or system image you can restore to. Because when it breaks, it’ll be a lot less painful to start over.

14·9 months agoI’ve had to use it for a week now. It has the most braindead, unintuitive UI I’ve ever seen. Unbelievably inefficient. So much wasted space. Parts that don’t make any sense at all. Notifications are a crap shoot. It crashes during conferences and blows through memory like mad. Whoever signed off on this trash is certifiably insane. Skype was uglyish and clunky but at least it worked.

17·10 months agoI was on-call and half awake when I got paged about a cache server’s memcached being down for the third time that night. They’d all start to go down like dominoes if you weren’t fast enough at restarting the service, which could overwhelm the database and messaging tiers (baaaaad news to say the least). Two more had their daemon shit the bed while I was examining it. Often it was best to just kick it on all of them to rebalance things. It was… not a great design.
So I wrote a quick loop to ssh in and restart the service on each box in the tier to refresh them all just in case and hopefully stop the incessant pages. Well. In my bleary eyed state I set reboot in the variable instead of restart. Took out the whole cache tier (50+) and the web site. First and only time I did that but that definitely woke me up. Oddly enough the site ran better after that for months as my reboots uncovered an undiscovered problem.

I had a pair too. They were roughly finished and would dig into your skin. Also didn’t sound very good. Cool idea though…
The TNT was a beast! I ran it on a k6-2 also. Unfortunately it crapped out and I replaced it with an MX400 which I still have (I have a problem). We all played with a myriad of platforms. One guy was on a friggin’ Alpha that he warmed his feet with under his desk (not sure if he actually played on that but it was a running joke). We also played Quake but for some reason we were obsessed with the silliness of UT. MMMMM MONSTER KILLL.
Kali did not exist my son
We played Unreal Tournament mostly because it ran really well on Linux. Rarely had LAN parties but it worked fine over dial-up. Kinda wild. Miss those days. We did a lot of dumpster diving because people would just throw everything out when they left college.

True. They’ve come a long way.
Same for me.
Going to dump it when the wife’s done with school. I was only keeping it for that and one game. So sick of subscriptions and the product isn’t even good except for Excel.
He’s definitely a fuck your feelings type. No nonsense and sometimes harsh but like you said it’s almost always justified. I’ll take that over fake ass, greedy LTT Linus “oops I got caught so now I’ll apologize or try to hide it and then apologize” any day of the week.

Like every MSP ever. When your CEO that started the company in college suddenly shows up in a green Lamborghini it is time to spruce up the resume.
