I didn’t have any intention of arguing…I was curious what you didn’t like about it. You’re entitled to your opinion.

What did Fedora do to hurt you so much?

2·1 month agoGN went offensive on a company critical to US national security interests and were contacted by the secret service. Makes sense.

1·1 month agoI don’t think he was chasing clicks before. The reporting GN has done has always been very informative and fairly accurate. Including his recent China thing.
That being said, I think since his big documentary he is looking for that same high and I do expect some degredation in quality because of that. Not saying I have seen it yet, but it’s a probable outcome and I’m watching for it.

Linux@lemmy.ml•KDE's start menu bugs make it feel 100x slower than it isEnglish
5·1 month agoThat’s wild, I’m on Fedora KDE and haven’t noticed any of these issues so far… Opens pretty fast, finds what I’m looking for. I didn’t see the UI bug he’s talking about with items being misaligned. I must just be lucky.
I so miss Voicemeeter since switching to linux. Pulsemeeter is good, but not quite as intuitive. I’ve had some good luck with something called Easy Effects I found just this week.
My usecase is just configuring input devices right now. Not sure if Easy Effects will do hotkeys which is what I really enjoyed in Voicemeeter.

1·2 months agoKernel 6.16.4 had a bug that caused packet loss. Patched in 6.16.5. Looks like Bazzite just updated (today?) from 6.16.4 to 6.17.5.
EDIT: Adding link talking about the bug

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s something you own that has truly paid for itself?English
7·2 months agoThe modem. At some point ISPs started charging a rental fee for their provided modem. When I noticed it was 12 dollars a month, not sure what it might have gone up to by now. You can buy a decent modem on the lower side of a hundred ish dollars. Pays for itself in the first year.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How many hours spent on video games is an addiction??English
2·2 months agoPiggybacking on this good comment. The handful of doctors and counselors I’ve met always say an addiction is defined as something that impedes other areas/responsibilities of your life. If you are consistently skipping important things like taking care of children, going to work/school, basic hygiene because you can’t stop playing roblox… then that is an addiction.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Aren't we basically morons if we elect another president?English
51·2 months agoThis is the level of upset they want you. They want us to say things like “why have another election”
The system wasn’t perfect before. It’s an institution designed to cater to basic needs and maintain peace for hundreds of millions of people. It’s unreasonable to expect perfection with that many moving parts. The system of government should continue being modified as problems are discovered. Completely dismantling it because one guy found a way to fuck it up is not the answer. Getting that guy out and unfucking it back to at least where we were before is what’s needed right now.
He wants you angry. He’s actively trying to insight civil war. Terms like “radical” get thrown around now to justify violence later. He wants us to think we need to dismantle the entire government. We don’t. We need to get him out and put it back together. I fully understand the government didn’t serve all people equally prior to trump and there were parts that were broken, but seriously was it as bad as what we’re going through now? Personally, I don’t think so. Democrat or Republican I’d take any past president over what we have now.

1·2 months agoThat guy was an ignorant jerk who fell victim to the propaganda machine combined with the deteriorating education system. Sadly, we have a lot of those kind in the US. You didn’t meet them during your time in the hospitality industry because they mostly don’t have passports.
In KDE if you furiously move the mouse pointer in frustration, as one would when they can’t find it, the pointer will grow in size. Brighter minds than mine might be able to port that into Cinnamon.
You do gotta respect linux and communism.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Baffled at PC freezing on Linux, but not on Windows for the same workloadEnglish
7·3 months agoNot sure this is the answer, but going to throw my two cents. If you try and it works let us know.
When I got back into linux a couple years ago I hopped through all of the distros you mentioned. The last one being KDE Neon. When I first found it I absolutely loved it. Decided that was going to be my main distro and started migrating all my systems which is a couple laptops, gaming desktop, and mini PC.
Over time I found that I was having minor, but consistent hardware issues. Similar to yours, freezing, and other gpu issues. It was most apparent on systems that had newer hardware. Looking at the specs for your mini PC it seems a bit older than what I have so again, not sure this applies to you, but I found my saving grace in Fedora. My issue specifically was the older kernel Neon uses not interacting well with my newer hardware and in some cases not having access to some hardware features. Fedora had a KDE spin otherwise I wouldn’t have done it. It has been my daily driver on all systems since.
TL;DR: Try Feodra KDE Spin or any distro that ships with a more up to date kernel

1·3 months agoOne of the 7/11 clerks told me you get 11 or 12 cents off per gallon every x (he said 7 I think) fuel visits when you sign up. In between it drops to 5 cents. Turns out no. You get 11 or 12 cents the first time and after that it’s always 5 cents.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Did anyone else not even know who Charlie Kirk was!?English
1·3 months agoTo me he was the guy who popped up in youtube shorts once in a while always telling some college student they were wrong about something. I thought he seemed a little… Not open to listening to a counter argument. He seemed like he had his responses prepared and would railroad over most of these kids before they finished talking. Not to mention… Kids. I never saw him debate any older folks. Maybe he’s really good at that, too and I just missed it.
After the news I did a search, filtered out the days after his death. Found his podcast listened to a couple episodes and pretty quickly decided that I don’t hate people in the same sense he seemed inclined to. Lots of antiblack antigay talk that just did not mesh for me.

For anybody on the brink of exodus and curious about those inconvenient options, here’s what worked for me.

Did you try dual boot with one drive? Windows will fuck that up.
