That’s because you’re trying to achieve “optimal”, which is not a requirement if saving time is your concern.
mistakes actually have consequences
You can just copy someone else’s build on PCPartPicker. There are so many to choose from.
You have time to play video games but you don’t have time to build a PC? Doubt.

2·18 days agoHere’s some that’s significantly cheaper than the graph would suggest: https://www.amazon.com/G-SKILL-Trident-64GB-SDRAM-Memory/dp/B0BSB94VC2
Not that it’s a good price in general or anything, but if you absolutely must buy now…

memes@lemmy.world•A language like a set of building blocks.
17·1 month agoI suspect every language does this to some extent. Some good examples from Japanese:
靴 = shoes 下 = under 靴下 = socks
手 = hand 紙 = paper 手紙 = letter
歯 = teeth 車 = wheel 歯車 = cog / gear
火 = fire 山 = mountain 火山 = volcano
Sadly (?) the Japanese compounds are often only compounds of the symbols, not the spoken words.
If your health check is broken, then you might not notice that a service is down and you’ll fail to deploy a replacement. Or the opposite, and you end up constantly replacing it, creating a “flapping” service.

Technology@lemmy.world•Japanese Government Calls on Sora 2 Maker OpenAI to Refrain From Copyright Infringement, Says Characters From Manga and Anime Are 'Irreplaceable Treasures' That Japan Boasts to the WorldEnglish
2·2 months agoI just don’t really understand the point they’re trying to make. Japan is responding to OpenAI, which is a US company. They have the same copyright laws. None of the parties involved have any kind of edge over the other w.r.t. copyright law.

Technology@lemmy.world•Japanese Government Calls on Sora 2 Maker OpenAI to Refrain From Copyright Infringement, Says Characters From Manga and Anime Are 'Irreplaceable Treasures' That Japan Boasts to the WorldEnglish
43·2 months agoJapan’s copyright law is very similar to the US, so I’m not sure what you’re referring to.
Pretty sure my journey looked something like:
- Ubuntu for a while
- A furious bout of hopping experiments: Debian, ElementaryOS, Crunchbang, MX Linux, Fedora
- Arch for a bit, but it was too much struggle
- Ubuntu for a while, embracing the “vanilla” lifestyle
- Manjaro for a while. It seemed to solve my previous issues with vanilla Arch.
- EndeavourOS, basically a better Manjaro.
- NixOS, which had a significant learning curve but ultimately gives me the most control and repeatability for all of my machine configs. Still daily driving this on my desktop, router, and some web servers.
- Tried out Fedora Atomic on my old laptop out of curiosity. Installing packages was ultra slow. Workflows were too annoying.
So I think the graph is actually pretty reflective of my own experience, aside from some of the specific distro choices during my peak ignorance phase, and obviously I ended up at NixOS which isn’t even on here.
I currently have more audio issues on my MacBook Pro than my Linux desktop. The Mac will sometimes just fail to recognize headphones plugged into the 3.5mm TRS port. NixOS desktop w/ pipewire has no audio problems whatsoever.
