It may be a bold of me to say, but I hold the controversial opinion that I don’t really give a shit which computer OS you use. If you can use a mouse and keyboard to navigate a desktop environment then 🤙 you are ahead of the curve at this point.

The original series is all I’ve seen but its legit hilarious and definitely still worth watching. Many of its storylines have been revisited/retold over the decades, but the plots maintain their charm and originality. It’s campy as all hell, but the campy atmosphere of the show elevates it rather than aging it in a bad way.

When’s the last time you tried? I had a hell of a time dual booting in ~2016, but as of the last five years or so I’ve set up half a dozen dual boots without issue, and Windows (LTSC) hasn’t messed up any of the partitions.

What is this disclaimer warning about? I have used LTSC exclusively as a desktop OS since 2019 and everything works. I have not had an instance of something not working that would have otherwise worked on Enterprise or Home, etc. I game in 4k, edit videos, run a jellyfin server, mine monero. I’m rocking a kei truck for landscaping and home reno projects, and it still uses more gas than I’m happy with. Have you looked at local LLMs? You can download and run them off your own machine - no connecting to an external server. They aren’t any more power intensive than a lot of video games. I downloaded a DeepSeek model and I use ComfyUI to operate it locally

I genuinely find LLMs to be helpful with a wide variety of tasks. I have never once found an NFT to be useful.

Here’s a random little example: I took a photo of my bookcase, with about 200 books on it, and had my LLM make a spreadsheet of all the books with their title, author, date of publication, cover art image, and estimated price. I then used this spreadsheet to mass upload them to Facebook Marketplace in bulk. In about 20 minutes I had over 200 facebook ads posted for every one of my books, which resulted in getting far more money than if I made one ad to sell all the books in bulk; I only had to do a quick review of the spreadsheet to fix any glaring issues. I also had it use some marketing psychology to write attractive descriptions for the ads.

I moved into a tiny home and got one for measuring the current draw of my kitchen appliances and keeping track of the cost of my electric space heater ($40/month so far, yeesh)

I remove defender on my installs as it’s resource heavy and it doesn’t provide me any additional security that I require. I don’t download any software to the PC aside from the run-of-the-mill apps, so I don’t need Defender constantly scanning my system and files.

I don’t replace the anti-virus with anything. You can use the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) to scan files if needed but I haven’t needed it yet. For a firewall I use Simplewall, which is a fantastic lightweight FOSS app I recommend to everyone

Tor. Anything short is freely giving your data away. If you’re looking for something that isn’t based on Gecko or Chromium there is the DuckDuckGo browser, which is WebKit. I can’t attest to how good their privacy policy is though as I have no idea.

Tor/Mullvad are the only acceptable options if you genuinely want the best for your privacy. Mullvad browser is a bit less of a hassle than Tor but not by much. If adamant about staying away from Gecko (Firefox) and Chromium browsers then WebKit forked browsers are sort of the last options.

At this point I’m beginning to look at going online as something that is inherently dangerous (for lack of a better word) and that needs to be done with care. There is no meaningful way to stay private anymore, and by connecting and interacting you are always painting a target on your back with long-lasting consequences that we can’t imagine yet. It’s not looking great right now, my dudes.

Surely it’s less work to maintain security patches for a few prior versions of windows than it is to indefinitely maintain backwards compatibility
