Mine updates with all my other stuff. Not sure why you’d need to download it every time. I installed it with pacman.

Linux@lemmy.ml•[SOLVED] Installing Linux distro without breaking Windows install
1·10 months agoYeah you could try installing Linux with the Windows drive disconnected. I had Windows and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed installed with two drives on my old PC without any issues.

2·10 months agoHmm. Windows shouldn’t be putting anything on the Linux drive. Maybe disconnect the other drive before installing Windows.

Linux@lemmy.ml•[SOLVED] Installing Linux distro without breaking Windows install
2·10 months agoYou could use a separate drive for Linux.
Have you checked out OpenSUSE Tumbleweed? Very stable rolling release. I’ve been using it for a couple years without issues.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Yet another "What distro should I use?" post, but at least I did some homework.
3·1 year agoI really enjoy Tumbleweed. I’ve been using it for about 18 months now without issue. One thing to note though is that TW only packages production release Nvidia drivers. This means you will not have the 555 or 560 drivers that make Wayland usable by default. You can always install the latest drivers with the run file provided by Nvidia. Some people also use the CUDA repo to get the newer drivers. However, I’d think both of these options may be the type of tinkering you are trying to avoid.
Overall I think TW is a great distro but it may be a bit more setup for Nvidia gaming on Wayland than you are looking for. If you’re down with doing a little tinkering or gaming on X give it a shot. You can always roll back if something gets messed up.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I need a distro that can work right out the box without too much hassle to configure it, which one would you recommend?
2·2 years agoOh yeah I’m on X11 for now, waiting on nvidia to be ready before trying wayland again. AMD users should be fine to use wayland though.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I need a distro that can work right out the box without too much hassle to configure it, which one would you recommend?
2·2 years agoRolling but feels very stable. Packages go through a testing phase before release to make sure they work properly. I really like getting all the newest updates and features.

7·2 years agoopenSUSE Tumbleweed is pretty comfy. Btrfs snapshots enabled by default so it’s really hard to break it. I’ve been using it for about 8 months now and haven’t had any big issues.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•To someone who is born blind, how would you best discribe what seeing is?
9·3 years agoIt’s like knowing where everything in front of you is without having to touch or hear it. Sight works with your other senses too. For example, if a pillow is laying on the floor in an unfamiliar room I’ll know what shape it, how far away it is, and that if I pick it up it’ll feel soft. If the pillow was really gross looking I’d be able to tell without smelling it first.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Eye glasses wearers in the US, where do you buy your glasses from these days?
15·3 years agoZenni has really good prices. I bought some prescription sunglasses from them for about $50. The site suggested I spend an extra $70 on high-index lenses but I ignored it. Glasses work great.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What book are you in the middle of reading right now?English
2·3 years agoI’m just started reading Wool by Hugh Howey. I finished the first season of Silo and didn’t want to wait a year to get more of the story. The book has been great so far. It seems like the show followed the book pretty well with a few changes.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?
3·3 years agoWindow screens, fly ribbons, and a Bug-A-Salt gun lol. The bug-a-salt shoots salt very fast to kill bugs.

Endeavor is a also a very good choice. It is pretty much arch with some QoL stuff added. Uses the arch repos for packages.
