I was surprised, in a bad way, at how difficult it is to get any VNC running. I tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and base Debian, but couldn’t get any VNC working. The closest I got was with Debian, but it gave me a different desktop than what was coming out the video port to my monitor. I’d be interested in hearing if anyone has had better luck with anything.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Microsoft will now urge you to ditch local accounts on Windows 10
3·2 years agoI’ve never heard of AtlasOS until this comment. I read the documentation and it’s interesting that they need you to install it using a fresh Windows ISO. I wonder what they are doing that can’t be accomplished on an existing Windows installation with a bunch of Powershell scripts?

Technology@lemmy.ml•“MP3 is dead” missed the real, much better story. MP3 is supported by everything, everywhere, and is now patent-free.

World News@lemmy.ml•Outcry after Spanish TV reporter ‘groped’ live on air
3·2 years agoMy point is that the media is drawing extra attention to his arrest - as a direct result of what happened. As opposed to any other guy that might get arrested for groping and nothing is mentioned about it.

World News@lemmy.ml•Outcry after Spanish TV reporter ‘groped’ live on air
4·2 years agoI don’t follow Spanish media, but it seemed like this article/video made a point of showing the guy in handcuffs. That appears like someone is trying to make point.
Edit: Actually, I don’t see the video in this article, but there was a video that showed the groping event and then ended with the guy in handcuffs, being escorted by Spanish police.
The video was linked in a different post: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/9/14/spanish-police-arrest-man-for-groping-reporter-isa-balado-while-live-on-air?traffic_source=rss

10·2 years agoBetween this and the soccer event, I feel like the Spanish authorities will want to make things especially difficult for this guy. If for no other reason than to appear to the world that they are not a sexist country.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Probably a stupid question, but will we ever have something like a microwave to make things cold? Is there a reason this can't exist?
20·2 years agoI expect this post in a couple days: “How do I remove a paper towel that is frozen to my bottle of wine?”

3·2 years agoI expect some apps to eventually allow a user to merge like-named communities into a single “virtual” community. The Connect app already moved towards this by presenting your subscriptions grouped by community named, rather than instance. So I see all my “technology” communities listed next to each other, for example.

I can’t remember if I have Wayland on my Debian installation with XFCE. I installed it several months ago, so I will check.
