1·3 months agoWe’d be like villagers in a single-player Minecraft world. When Steve leaves the game, we freeze in mid-clock tick, and when Steve returns, we are back too, not even aware of the event.

2·3 months agoPersonally, I don’t think it matters to me as long as I have my FOSS OS on my own machine (even if simulated) - the worst that can happen would be the host machine crashes, then we all just stop between frames. We’d stop existing in plank time.

4·6 months agoYou buy a game. Every time you start the game it phones home for permission. The company decides to shut down the server that gives permission. You can’t play the game anymore. If this is like other initiatives in the same vein it won’t stop the game maker from shutting down the server, but it will mandate that they either open source the server so you can run your own, or build the game in such a way that you can still play it (maybe single player only) after the server is gone.

I had an idea sort of like that - media for your camera or cell-camera that was write once, could not be erased or changed, did not forget (you know ssd’s and thumb drives forget as the stranded charge leaks away) - Each picture cryptographically signed with GPS and date and time and author/photographer.
Ah, the call of the total information warrior - “If you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide”: do they track your phone wherever you drive? Ever drive past a crime in progress unknowingly? Can you prove you were not participating in the crime? Even if it is the dead of night in the warehouse district on your way home from work?
